why does the fan sometimes kick in full blast when i wake the laptop up from sleep? i have to turn it off completely to alleviate the problem.

I know that in another thread it has been hypothesized that the reason is because it wakes up too quickly; however it should not be happening. I'm afraid that it is bad for the laptop / fan.

    thanks.

Does it stay on for a long time? Or is it just for a few seconds?

My Hell Studio 15 did that for about 4 min after waking from sleep then it would go to minimum fan speed.
Yes, the "Hell" is intentionally replacing "Dell".

My HP nc8230 also did that but only for about 20 seconds.

Well, usually the fan will fail long after you've stop using the laptop.

The odds are that your GPU would fail before your fan would.
