I initially posted this in "What Notebook Should I Buy?" but I figure posting here may have better results.

I am looking for a new, cheap (< $1000) gaming laptop / desktop replacement (I do NOT want a desktop). I currently own an HP dv6426us, which is reaching 3 years old and makes a crummy desktop replacement and an absolutely horrid piece of gaming equipment. I am not terribly tech savvy so I would appreciate all the help I can get. My top two choices right now are Asus G60JX-RBBX05 and Asus N61JQ-X1.

    Asus G60JX-RBBX05
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+L...&skuId=9736955
[$1070 after tax, then 5% cashback from Bing]

    Asus N61JQ-X1
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-696-_-Product
[$969 on Amazon. I just prefer Newegg for the specs]

With these two models I am looking at, I am unsure what the big differences are (i5-430M 2.26 GHz VS i7-720QM 1.6 GHz (turbo boost to 2.8), nVidia Geforce GTS360M 1GB DDR5 VS ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB DDR3). If you can explain the major differences between the two laptops and give me your opinion / preference, that would be great. I'd gladly take other laptop suggestions as well. And would you recommend getting A1 over X1 for the extra money (since that's a bit over my budget then)? Thanks!

From all threads and feedback I've seen about the N61JQ, this is the first time I see someone say it overheats. Could you please show me a link? Thanks

I've had my n61jq for about a month and have had no issues with it over heating. There may be isolated incidents but I haven't heard of any.

Those are normal operating temps for the processor.

Mine runs within specs as well.... I would advise getting a laptop cooling pad just to be on the safe side. I have a Zalman NC2000 and it works great at keeping my laptops cool.

What are the 3d mark 06 benches on both of these?

    Are they comparable?

I can only speak for my system but my 3dmark 06 score out of the box was 7900 or there abouts. With the new ati 10.3 beta drivers it's about 8100. Overclocked graphics with 760mhz core and 875mhz (the highest I could do without crashing or artifacting) on the memory was about 8800-8900

The G60JX has an Nvidia GTS360m wich is a class 1 graph with GDDRAM5 card with more than 15000 points and the N61 has a GT325m wich is a class 2 graphic card with 12000 points and DDR3, however the the N61 has USB 3.0, for gaming and if you are not going to move it too much i recomend the G60JX

If gaming is on top of your list get the JX.
It's a pretty powerful laptop and relatively cheap.
Components are a good match for the screen res, you'll be able to play even some of the more demanding games well.
Checked one out at BB today in if I didn't already have a VX I'd pick one up.
New Black color on the lid looks sharp. :)
