I am looking for a good laptop with the gtx 260m video card. This best buy deal seems too good to be true. The processor is only p7450 and the screen a 1366 x 768. But the hd is 320G at 7200rpm. It seems solid. What's the chatter on this machine?

I'm looking into this laptop as well and I'm wondering if the CPU will have a huge effect on game performance. I also am not fond of the color scheme but apparently they made a white one, yet I can't find where to buy it. Any help would be great.
-
That is an good deal for an new G60,the white one was the G51Vx,minor differences...discontinued because of windows 7,the darker lid scheme is better in the long term for scratches and grime.
That Cpu will have almost no effect on gaming performance,it is all reliant on Video cards, and the G60 has one of the most powerful, the GTX260m -
Yeah it's a great deal, though you still sacrifice a bit on the warranty side. Good thing Best Buy sells computers at or below cost.
-
The way BB gets away with this Angelic, is becuase they lower the system specs and with them getting rid of the ASUS warranty, it cuts usually 100+ dollars off their prices compaired to what people get for the "real" system. In reality, BB is more or less false advertising and misleading consumers with what they sell.
-
CPU will not have a "huge" effect on game performance, but you gotta know that this CPU is not future proof.
Still for the resolution GTX 260M and p7450 will have no problems playing games such as Resident Evil 5, Modern Warfare 2 etc. -
Actually I believe the $100 price drop is due to the fact that the next refresh in the G60 series is coming out, so they must be in a hurry to unload..same for the $100 price drop in the G72 best buy model.
-
No, the way they get away with selling at or below cost, which is what I said, is by selling services.
Obviously, the actual price they get away with for this particular laptop is because of what you stated, lower specs. Which are clearly stated, and not misleading at all.
The only thing misleading is that most people don't even realize Asus has a 2 year warranty with 1 YR ADH for free. -
I would never, ever trust Geek Squad to fix my laptop.
They'll probably make it worse. -
Yes,the G60 also comes in an Speced out $1200 Varient plus the i7 varient.
-
Yup, I know. At least BB offers different configs, though some only online. I work there lol.
-
Well..I kinda meant the ones sold online at Newegg..
Whats your postion? -
O, I'm sorry, my bad. I work in the Computers department btw. Just to note, I would *never* work at Geek Squad.
-
Good...
Hey,is it true that you must pay $39.99 for the whole pre-optimization fee when you buy a laptop? -
You don't have to, no. If they try to sell that to you, ask for a lappy that doesn't have that service done to it, because they often try to sell you a "preset" one.
-
They have a bunch of boxes on the shelves with different configs. Just tell them no and pick up the box that hasn't been opened and molested by those community college kids
Their "optimizations" are just superficial mods to the OS that can be done with any windows optimizer program such as TuneUp2010, which I highly recommend, or if you wish go checkout download.com there's plenty of free programs -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Optimization = scam. Asus knows what to put on their notebooks.

I'm really eying this notebook right now at the local BB... what kind of gaming temps are the norm with this notebook? And if it does overheat, Asus, NOT BestBuy, will fix it correct? BTW.. I think for 899 it's a fantastic deal, considering that for just 100 bucks less my CW isn't even in the same ballpark component wise.
-
Damn, I can't find this computer for sale in Canada. Does anyone know where I could grab it? I could try ordering from a U.S. site but most won't ship up here and we run the risk of paying up to 24% extra in import duty/sales tax.
-
you will see maxed temp around 93C.
buy a laptop cooler, that way it'll never overheat.
G60VX-RBBX05 at bb for $899
