Picked up one of the laptops over the weekend and I'm trying very hard to like it. One thing is bugging the crap out of me though and that is the craptastic panel used for the display. It's simply the worst I've ever used. It looks like someone left a layer of saran wrap over it or something. Unless you are 100% dead on dead center everything is washed out. I've used multiple glossy displays and tend to prefer them so this isn't simple glare.

The device manager identifies my panel as hsd160phw1 which comes back to this panel made by hannstar http://www.hannstar.com/Common.aspx?mid=184&tmid=3&modid=4.

Would someone else with a panel that looks good mind identifying their panel? I'm wondering if this is worth an exchange or if this is just they way the laptop is.

Mine reads the same: Hardware ID: HSD0640 which is the HSD160phw1. But, on the plus side, this gives me something to go on to find us a replacement.

I don't remember the display model at BB looking as bad. Gonna run down there tonight and see what it is using.

I just replaced the panel in my G50vt-X1. The G60VX uses an LED-backlit screen. You need to match but three things when choosing a new panel:

    1. Backlight connector (CCFL or LED)
    2. Screen size
    3. Resolution

That's it. I picked a generic panel from Samsung that fit my needs and it works perfectly.
