I bought a G60jx from Best Buy Last Tuesday. Yesterday I tried to play a video for the first time and it cut out, froze and stuttered. My music played fine, and so my games. I checked the DPC latency and it was mostly in the reds and yellows.

I reinstalled Windows and used the most up to date and basic drivers, mostly from the Asus website. Now, when I start up DPC Latency Checker it spikes into the red for one bar, then settles at green for awhile. When I open folders on files it sometimes spikes into yellows and reds, and sometimes it spikes intermittently. When I say sometimes, I mean usually within a few seconds, and not longer than a few minutes. This has had no effect on the video and audio playback so far.

However, my friend has a much more severe case of audio distortion and video lag on his m17, and his keeps coming back after dying down. So my questions to you all are
    1. Should I worry about this?
    2. What is causing the spikes?
    3. Is it possible to return this to Best Buy for a refund without receiving a restocking fee?

I only have around 4 more days to return the item according to Best Buy's website.

I haven't had that problem with my G60JX, so you may want to return it for another one or ask for a refund. FYI, if you want a refund they will give you gift cards.

To avoid the restocking fee, you'll need to speak with one of their Geeksquad people. They are mostly cool and won't hassle you, but I have had some Geek guys that were jerks and tried to make the problem seem like it was something I did. Overall you should be able to get your refund easily.
