Can anyone tell me how to get realtek to recognize my headphones as headphones instead of speakers? I've tried the realtek and windows audio panels and neither will let me do anything.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I didn't realize the SPDIF jack was the headphone jack. I thought this was for digital headphones.

Nope, that didn't work, I'm still an idiot, lol. The sound was just coming out of the speakers, but it says headphones, i dunno

I installed the drivers from the Asus website and now I can manually switch to headphones mode but the realtek panel seems to be unavailable. Still looking for some answers if anyone can help.

Ya well I was trying to bump it too actually.

The problem is that the algorithm for sending surround to headphones gives MUCH better quality and direction then if you just downmix to stereo. If something is coming from the right it puts a few millisecond delay between your right and left ear instead of only playing sound out of the right speaker. If you haven't heard a good DVD with Dolby Headphone setting in your player then you are really missing out.

Turns out they work fine with movies but games should virtualize the sound differently too and this doesn't seem to be the case.

I reinstalled the drivers again and it's switching automatically now but it never says "headphones", it only says speakers, no matter which jack I plug into.
