    After alot of searching and lost sleep i have decided that asus will be my first notebook, they have served me very well with their motherboards and have found no reason to stray.

    Im just making sure that the only difference between the G71G-X1 and G71G-A1 models are that the A1 has 2 gigs more ram and 280 more gigs on the hard drive.

    Yes, you're right, but remember it's cheaper if you buy the A1 from gentechpc and if you pay via check/e-check via paypal, it's even cheaper than the X1 (w/ the $100 rebate from Asus).
