    For my G71G-A2:

CPU-z shows my memory as running at 349(700)Mhz, not 400(800) as I would expect. Even oc'd with the Asus utility.

I notice there is a BIOS setting regarding memory speed. Something about downgrade speed. I tried to turn that off, but then it wouldn't post.

Does anyone have a good explanation about the various BIOS settings? Or how to increase my memory speed? The memory is rated by SPD to be 400(800) capability, although with slightly relaxed timings.

Has anyone tried the latest BIOS? Any major changes?
    :p

Check the FSB. The Memory Frequency is directly related to the FSB though a multiplier.

It may also be a chipset limitation. Some chipsets are limited to DDR2-667 speeds. I don't know exactly which.

I think this has more to do with the overclock utility

I noticed that on my G71V my ram runs at 1066 but the SPD reports it capable of 1333 using the same settings it normally runs at. When I overclock however the ram goes up to 1333MHz so I think they underclocked it to keep it in-spec when the overclock utility is used.

How can I find out which clock-generator the G71g uses?

I'd like to use SetFSB But I'm not sure which chip to use when it asks.

    Thanks. :)

Either open up the laptop and look for the clock gen. Or google your model and its PLL. Or try out every PLL in SetFSB, and see which gives the correct frequencies when comparing with CPU-Z, etc.

It's the TurboGear in the BIOS, if you disable TurboGear the memory speed will run at 800 Mhz but you won't be able to overclock CPU in Windows, if the Turbo Gear is enable then the RAM speed will downclock to 667, Asus said it's better for overclicking mode.

The problem is that several different ones give the correct frequencies.

Try to overclock, using the PLLs that give the correct frequencies. At least, those are something near to the correct PLL.

OK so I just got my G71G yesterday and am wondering what I need to do in order to overclock it to the max? Is it a combination of BIOS setting and the overclocking program or just a matter of the overclokcing program?
