Seems the new G71G that is arriving at resellers this week is coming with 6GB of only 800 MHz DDR2 RAM! Although the extra 2GB was overkill, I was looking forward to the 1333 speed.. Now it seems the only reason to get these over the G50Vt is the 17in screen. It's so nice to wait all this time just to get the old bait and switch.. NOT!![]()

Both BTOtech and ExcaliberPC have updated their sites. I called BTO to confirm and they said they have the actual units and they come with the DDR2 and they changed their site info to reflect this.
-
does it matter?
-
Yes the actual unit has DDR2 800 and we already update the specs.
-
Does RAM speed matter? I suppose it might to some, not to others, but there is a difference. The price has not changed either so you aren't getting as much for your money anymore. That can matter to a lot of people.

ah... i see.... my mistake then
Well, if it makes you feel any better, DDR3 1333mhz shows little or no performance difference compared to DDR2 800mhz
At least it's definitely not noticeable at all. I had the new macbook and it has DDR3 ram. Couldn't tell the difference -

We corrected the specs to DDR2 800 a day after the latest ASUS pricelist was introduced and that was about two weeks ago. Thanks!

Xoticpc told me yesterday that their units come with DDR3 memory.
-
I am wondering how this 3 channel memory works... Can someone tell me the details of the trick?
Do these PM45 chips have 3 memory controllers? Weren't they for the Nehalem platform? -
-
i dont care about memory,i hope sli vidio cards!
-
I think it will be standardized so I think we can expect them to be DDR2 from XoticPC aswell, its just really disappointing, why a last minute change like this?
Not what the pre-orderers payed for really... -
Well, if Asus and the pre-listed specs for my G71V laptop are anything to go by the unit could well come with a 15" monitor and a 486 processor.
Asus specs for my laptop list DDR2 800MHz ram as standard, unit arrived with DDR3 1066MHz ram and the actual modules are DDR3 1333MHz ones.
Don't rely on Asus specs until the box has landed at the retailers and they can double check the specs printed on the side (my box specs were as per the enclosed unit). -

it has ddr2 800
every dealer in america gets the same exact g71g-a2 -
I would have understood a drop from 1333 to 1066 or something but down to 800? Im not sure anymore...
G71G-A2 now has DDR2 memory?
