I know all of the models have the little HUD above the keyboard, but does anyone have a BIOS mod to get it to work? i want one that shows temps and battery percentage left, or something... I know there is one that shows new IM's on it or something, but i don't really remember

    is there anything out there?

If it's an OLED (which probably is compatible with G50/G70) display you can try out LCDHype, check out my signature. Also, check what type of device it is, is it USB HID, what VID and PID numbers it has (in case LCDHype doesn't recognize it)

It's been reported by many people on this forum (I can vouch this too) and ASUS themselves, the G71GX-RX05 doesn't have one. How the heck do you think it's so cheap? Lower resolution screen, no oled Hud, DVD-RW (not bluray drive), DD2 memory, and probably a few other things to bring down the price of the laptop in order to compete with others with low price high tech setups (Gateway and such). So no, there is no bios fix or settings to "turn on" the oled Hud because it doesn't exist ...

The G71GX-A1 does have one though:
