So i sold my gateway FX and i had a plan to grab the white asus for best buy well they were out of stock. so i asked if they would sell the display model and they agreed to do so but when i went to look at it the keys were fed up and i told them i would like to walk out with a laptop today. so they asked if i would take the display home while they ordered a new 1 and i could swap it out as soon as it arrives. i agreed and after that i asked if they had any black ones's in and they said they had 3 left so i said what kind of a deal can u give me for the black one they agreed to take 100$ off from 1299. i said that would work. well i get it home i put my own vista copy on there because i hate factory bloat ware. i use the wireless and i only get 2 bars and my router is 4ft from me. so i updated the drives nothing changes. i take the laptop in my room and it barley connects to the internet is there something wrong with my wireless adapter? its the aroes wireless n adapter. i like the laptop the 6gigs is nice. better lcd and more hard drive space. but im still thinking that maybe i should take it back and get the g51vx-rx05 what are your guy's thoughts? is the G51 platform nice? or should i just keep with what i have? are there any revision coming out soon? it looks like there are i could wait till they come out.

I'm not sure but i doubt there will be revisions on Bestbuy models anytime soon, only thing new coming are G51J i7 setups but this are more high end laptops, which Bestbuy never sold.

I technically own both bestbuy laptops (G71 got stolen and currently G51), overall i still miss the bigger screen, and i had to update CPU, so ended more expensive. I still think the G71 was a better deal, just they are out of stock, and seems they wont be restocking, so i had to go for g51. On the G51 i like much more the keyboard and the screen (not the resolution) and its portability.

In case your interested, check the following review, check if you getting the same scores/temps etc.
    Da1writer's Asus G71GX-RX05 Full Review

Btw on the G51 the following worked, i reformated when i changed to the SSD, but i used orev utility to get the original cdkey of vista (not the same as the outside sticker), then just formated with my desktop vista oem dvd, and ran again the orev utility and vista was activated without conection, its a legal way to format as you still using what the laptop came with, this way you will save the hazzle of calling ms or even using another key, since you already paid what it came preinstalled.

In case your insterested check the following thread,
Orev Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION

Why do you need a revision? Why not just buy a different wireless card? I just got my replacement laptop yesterday and I don't like the included wireless card so I ordered a better one from amazon Intel WiFi Link 5300 - Network adapter - PCI Express Mini Card.

why do i need a revision? ok take this for instance. you go to best buy and you drop alot of money on your laptop then you find out that there is a better laptop coming out for around the same price. wouldent you want the better laptop? i mean if your gonna spend all this money on one i wouldent want a outdated system. why would i want to spend more money i know its probly like 10-20bucks but the thing should work good in the first place. how much did you end up paying for it? i have a usb wireless n right now but i dont wanna worry about takeing it every were with me.

LOL, In the world of computers todays star is tomorrows has been. Hell, come to think of it thats life. Since you already bought the laptop why not save the money for the next big thing? Here is a short story, A person I know jumped on a sweet laptop (G2P) 2 yrs ago. In three months time a laptop (G2S) way better then the one he bought came out so he bought the new one and sold the three month old one for A LOT less then he paid. Two months later another sweet laptop came out and he thought about getting that one. Moral of the story " The next best thing is always around the corner". I got the card from amazon for $28 + shipping. It replaces the internal one you have inside your laptop now so I dont have to worry about taking it with me :D.

Oh yeah, the price you paid for your Best Buy version is on the low side. So that means you get less of the good stuff. The higher spec G71s have the better wireless card. I got mine as a replacement to my failed G2S which had a better wireless card then the one in my G71Gx.

obviously this thread has taken a different direction, but i wanted to share. i just recently purchased the best buy G51 (last week). The wireless card in it is junk... Intel wifi link 5100. I was getting terrible reception and speed when my macbook pro right next to it was at full 130MBPS. i read on the internet a ton of people are having problems with through put on this card and can't get it to connect at N even though it is advertised that way. since i work at an apple service provider, i dropped in an Aetheros 5008X from a dead macbook pro (three antenna). it instantly connected at N speed and performed great with the included windows 7 driver.

in other words, i think the 5100 in the G1 is kind of sub-par.
