Howdy, so I'm running Dox drivers for the 260M and I've upped all the clock speeds by 15%, leaving me at almost exactly 85C, with just a few peeks to 86 and quite often drops to 82-84.

My stress test is Crysis with all settings maxxed, 1440x900 res, with x4 AA.
I'm getting 14-22 FPS, and I used to have an Inspiron 1525 with an Intel GMA 965 so this is perfectly acceptable to me.

My question is, what is the theoretical limit for how hot I should let my GPU get?

I'm thinking I might be able to bump the settings up another 5% or so.

The critical point for most GPUs is around 105C after which most will automatically underclock to prevent hardware damage.

That doesn't mean, of course, that you can overclock as long as the GPU doesn't hit 105C. Having high temps, which I usually say is anything above 92-3C consistently will reduce the life of that particular component significantly.

How long are you playing Crysis to get 85C? If you've played for a couple hours, then the temperatures are pretty good and you could probably overclock a bit more without much heating problems. Just make sure that its stable and you don't get artifacts.

Ok, I've been playing for about 2 hours now and the temp is consistently 88C.
But I think I'll leave it as is for now.
Just maybe bump it up a tad for a 3DMark score ;)

Hmm.. Crysis whitescreened me when I bumped the settings up to what you have in your sig. >.>

    Lets try that again.

Well I have a G51 which is different from a G71. Also, not all GPUs are made equal so there is no guarantee that you can get to any certain point while overclocking.

If it seems to be unstable at a certain clock, I would stay under it just to be safe.
