for the impatient (like me): be patient!

confirmed: both notebooks have shown up on vendor lists in Canada. ordering will start, but resellers don't have an ETA beyond "late september". (who's got more pull, i wonder? NCIX? ICI? ANITEC? A-POWER?)

confirmed: ROG G71V-A1 will be a T9400 (not the Quad or Extreme) with VHP64.

unconfirmed: ROG G71V-A1 pricing will be $2200

and as the interested will already know, the M70VM-C2 is equipped with VU64. pricing unknown, but if the G71V pricing is accurate, this one should be a couple hundred bucks cheaper?

anyone else with details (confirmed is, of course, better!), please post here.

    I wish it was cheaper.

    $2200 for a G50v-A1 + a 17" screen, that's just not right. Thats $500 for a bigger screen.

I'm now considering a Sager 17" model, but I hate how the Sager doesn't have dual hdd's. The G70sg is the perfect laptop for me, but it will probably be $2500+, and that's just too much for me.

    ^ yup. pretty close. except it's $2200 for an A2 + 17" WUXGA screen.

more info. this is based on a vendor spec-sheet -- again this is all pre-release, so take it with a grain of salt. if i can get some "final" info, i'll post it. (but it's not like i hang out with computer resellers, eh.)

    the G71V-A1 will have:

    2 x 200GB 7200rpm drives
    BD combo drive
    Nvidia 9700M GT 512MB DDR3 VRAM
    support up to 8GB RAM
    Intel 5100

no surprises. wish they at least put some fatter drives on this, or shipped it with Ultimate, or a TV Tuner (booooo! really wanted one!) or something for the extra $$.

I thought the G50v came with Vista Ultimate? Why wouldn't they have ultimate if its a 64 bit OS?

Also, the BD drive makes sense with the price. And I don't think this G71v-A1 is a bad deal anymore because its only $200-300 more than the A2.

Any chance you can get some details on the G70sg pricing? My guess is that it is around $2600 with a single 9800M GT. It has 2 x 320 7200 rpm drives and the better video card as far as I know.

I noticed in your sig it says your waiting for this notebook to hit the 604. Are you from the Greater Vancouver area, I am.

yup, i'm in the same place as you -- ground zero for Canada's about-to-burst Housing Bubble, ha!

no-one in the 604 has picked up the G71V yet. but i've tracked down a reseller in Ottawa. and the info on the G71V on their website matches pretty much exactly what i've come across so far, in terms of specs (and pricing!).

NCIX takes a wrist-shot from the high slot.

    taking "special orders".

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=4360850&vpn=90NP2A2M34798KQL450Y&manufacture=ASUS

and FrontierPC passes into the neutral zone (most expensive of the one's i've found -- also don't like "SUPERMUL" as part of the description, as that's not BD):

    http://frontierpc.com/ProductDetail...UPERMUL,&mfrpartno=NB-AS-G71V-A1-BIL&version=

if only someone could post *confirmed* specs!

Hmmm. I'm gonna wait till retailers get a final price on the G70SG.

If it is between $2200-2500 CAN then I might just go for it, even though it's above what I intended to pay for a laptop. But the G70SG really is the ultimate gaming + everything laptop.

My other choice is the G71v-A1 or the Sager 17" (not the super expensive one), which will be around $2200. The G71v has all the extra features I like and dual hdd's, while the Sager has the 9800M GT.

pre-orders will take anywhere from 10 days to three weeks to arrive, though. and all of this info was made available in the last 24-48 hours. still, it's a pretty good indication of availability when NCIX and ICI pick it up.

that said, would LOVE for either of them -- or ASUS -- to post actual confirmed specs for the Canadian models.

    ROG. ROG. ROG. ROG! ROG!

    bring it on, baby.

Hey Red_Dragon do you know if the G70SG will have Blu Ray? I mean, if it doesn't that means it could possibly be priced around the same as the G71. I wish you could get a G71 without the Blu Ray and with a 9800.

^ not going to happen, unfortunately. the ASUS media release states the G71 will only be packed with the 9700. i guess they want to differentiate between the "regular" ROG 17" and the "supreme" ROG 17".

but speaking of which, has ASUS even "officially" announced the G70SG in a media release?

Yeah, about the M70VM-C2 - I just got off the phone with an ASUS rep who is now saying that this model isn't coming. Apparently they just got a memo saying that, in fact, the M70VM-C2 was a "sample" that they were just running with a few retailers and that it was never intended to be sold!!! ***. This is a totally different story than I got the other day... I made sure to impress upon the people that I did speak with that the laptop is up for pre-order on a bunch of websites by companies that believe the thing is on it's way. Did I say ***??

Too bad that my first experience with ASUS had to be so bad and that no other laptop, in comparison, seems to fit me like this one did. Was it too good? Not the profitability they anticipated??

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Anyway, I encourage anyone who has been looking forward to the M70VM-C2 to call ASUS and give them a piece of your mind and impress upon them that there is a market out herE waiting to give them money for something we all thought was on its way.

The number is 1-510-739-3777 ext. 1 ext. 3

^ RE: the -C2. it's definitely on the pre-order vendor sheet, along with the G71. who knows though?

it seems that ASUS doesn't carry many "redundant" models -- and maybe there wasn't a big enough difference between the C1 and C2? Ultimate 64 + 1TB, right?

Pretty much. But the hard drive space is important for some people and the 64 bit version of windows is proven to have better performance. I say, get rid of the less impressive C1.

What pre-order vendor sheet are you talking about. I checked out those Canadian links and there was not C2.

    Thanks,

P.S. I found the C2 supposedly available for drop ship on Sparco.Com and ShopBLT.Com. Sparco had the better deal, last I knew. I've since made purchased and will let ya'll know if it actually works out. Wish me luck.

the vendor sheets are the lists that the vendors actually order from -- typically not for public consumption. but yes, absolutely, i can confirm that i did see a C2 on that list, just above my beloved G71V. question is: whether or not all vendors will stock it, and how great actual availability is from ASUS.

and yeah, i totally agree with you re: C1 vs. C2. load that sucker up and move it, i say.

G71 is again delayed in Norway. Now confired for 2nd of october. Dont see why they keep delaying this machine, ist not that high tech or revolutionary.

Toshiba G50 is starting to look pretty sweet, same with Amilio Xi3650.

G71V has been de-listed by a number of resellers across the country, including NCIX, ATIC, A-Power. ICI still has it on their website, but i noticed that the "available for pre-order" status has been removed.

the G71V was is supposed to be part of the coming out party for ROG -- and that website, BTW, is STILL not done. what's the delay? they want to push it into Q4 selling season?

on a side note -- APPLE stock just got kicked in the nuts to the tune of dropping 17.5%. the feeling in the market is that Q4 will not be a good time for computer makers to sell anything above $1000, because, well, the financial and economic worlds are on fire. maybe ASUS will have a harder time moving quantities of this one in the next while ...
