Well, the G60VX-05 has 7200rpm and it is smaller. That's why most people prefer it. But the G72VX has more memory, slightly faster processor, and an 8-cell battery instead of a 6-cell (which means longer life). It all comes down to what you're looking to use the computer for. Gaming-wise, the G72VX might be better to get, but if you're going to spend that much, it'd just make more sense to get the G60VX-09 since it's the same price yet way better spec-wise.

G72 gets less battery life due to it's size. I couldn't justify the extra $200 for the g72 over my g60.

I say get the 60 And have an xtra $200 for upgrades or accessories

If you're looking at a 17", I actually would recommend the Gateway 7908u instead of the 17" Asus. The Gateway's internals are about the same, but the thermal design is much better. You are looking at much lower temperatures (possibly higher GPU overclocking potential) out of the box. The disadvantage is that Gateway has no CPU overclocking ability (at all).

You get a pretty insignificant bump to your memory bandwidth though, which is good for a 1% performance increase (woohoo). Actually, the built-in Asus CPU overclocking allows a P8700 a much more significant performance bump. The 9 Cell battery should be good for a few extra minutes on battery power. You get more HD Space but slower spindle speed.

Sorry, I meant G60VX-RBBX09. I put G60VX-09 for short because I figured you would know what I meant, but whatever.

But seriously, if you're gonna spend 1200, get the 09. It has better specs than both of the 05s.

I need something New. I already had a gateway with that same design, it would really get boring owning a 3rd notebook with the same chassis.

Same question here. I am gonna buy in a week so please give me a decisive answer. G72GX-RBBX05 or G60VX-RBBX09? Isn't G72 newer than G60? And please guide to some G60 review link too. Thanks!

It depends on what you're looking for your laptop to do. Ihe G60VX-RBBX09 will perform better in gaming because of the faster HD, and it has more memory, but the G72GX has a bigger (and slightly better looking?) screen display. So it depends on what you want.

Both were release the same date, with win7. The G60 is different line than the G72, one is 16'' the other 17'', both are great gaming laptops, more into the preference you might have. The G60 09 i havent seen reivews here, its not as common as the 05 model.
