Had a GL502VT-DS1, loved it. Beautiful screen. It got stolen last week.

Yesterday got a GL502VM-DS4 as a replacement it. Hate it. Screen is over sharpened and gsync causes micro stuttering.

Is there anyway to access the LCD panel controls to adjust sharpness?

If I ordered a replacement screen for the GL502VT, think it would fit in the GL502VM? The chassis looks identical other than it being a different color.

Or could this be a batch issue? Ask store for a replacement?

Have you taken a look at the windows scaling settings? Set it at 100%.

Yeah this isn't a resolution/dpi issue. Like I said my GL502VT was perfect, its isolated to the GL502VM I just got.

isn't it the same LG screen?

i've seen several laptop screens lately, and my 502vm screen is no worse.

Check the nvidia control panel for settings you can play with. Gsync can be turned off.

As for sharpness, I don't understand what you mean. Are pictures oversharp, or just text?
If just text, You should be able to adjust lettering in Windows cleartype.

Actually, go into system properties > advanced > performance > visual effects > turn everything off.
as a baseline comparison, You should see pixel by pixel letters, no oversharpening

No its not the same LG screen, my old one didn't have GSYNC.

Best I can tell my old laptop had a Samsung LTN156HL01-104 panel and I checked the new on it has the LG LP156WF6-SPB6.

    I have tried disabling GSYNC.

The oversharpening is on everything (text, images, video, games) and solid color show the vertical lines the most. Changing windows settings has zero effect.

Trying to decide if I should try to get the retailer to exchange it being I might have a dud, since I can't find anyone else complaining about these, or just order the Samsung panel and do the swap. Wish my old laptop wasn't stolen.

After looking a lot more, I think whats going on is there is more vertical space space between pixels on this LG panel. ie. the pixels are narrower, causing the appearance of vertical lines and fringing.

I had a bunch of comparison pics but as soon as I upload them they lose the clarity to really show anything.

Really hard to take a photo that shows whats going on.

i had a samsung panel in my old G501vw, probably the same one as your VT.

no real noticeable difference as far as sharpness compared to the LG in my VM.

I don't know how you can see the lines between pixels at normal viewing distance.

phone camera picks up the pixels closeup, but I don't see them the way the camera does.

Maybe your samsung was soft, and you're not used to the LG yet. You should see the laptop demos at the store and compare.

Yup, yours looks like narrower pixels as well.

retailer agreed to exchange my laptop, but after seeing your picture I don't think its going to matter.

Trouble is finding a legit Samsung panel, found one on ebay, but most of the sites that sell panels only guarantee getting a panel of similar specs, not the exact panel. My old laptop had MUCH better viewing angles and didn't have this vertical line/sharpening issue I am having with this one.

Old one wasn't soft either, it looked as good or better than all the 24" desktop monitors I have at work and at home. Loved it. This new one has extra contrast between lines as can been shown on sharpening tests and it crushes color gradients, makes everything look awful. $2k laptop I expect better.

I wish I had a local retailer that had high end gaming laptops on display, but I don't. Only have cheapo laptops.

Found a good way to show what is happening. This picture you can see vertical whitish lines on the orange. The green and white pixels are fine. Blue/yellow/orange those sorts of colors show this contrast between pixels.

if you google for lcd pixel images, all screens that are 1080p show pixel lines.

I looked at this image with both my 502vm and 23" LG external monitor, and the external monitor shows white lines between the orange at normal viewing distance.
at normal viewing distance, i can't see the lines on the 502vm. I have to be 1 foot away before I start to see the white lines.

This is just how average 1080p average color gamut 6-bit panels are.

The LG is a little more grainy i guess.

I disagree that all average panels are like this. My old laptop didn't exhibit this and none of my desktop monitors exhibit this behavior (IPS/TN/PVA mainstream panels).

This is the first laptop/LCD panel I have seen this horrible contrasting lines that cause over-sharpening and color crush.

My zenbooks 13.3" in panel also has perfect consistency across solid and gradient colors with no contrasting lines. Thats a $900 laptop.

I found another thread talking about horizontal lines and Asus laptops with the panels not having correct EDID information. I'm also kinda wondering if it has something to do with gsync.

Should have my replacement laptop mid to late this week. retailer is cross shipping me a new one. Hoping this one is a dud.
