Just picked up a Brand New GL502VS-WS71 at Microcenter on Sale for $1499

Initial impressions are it runs AAA titles well at very high to ultra settings with a few tweaks. Idle temps of CPU 50c and GPU 50c. I noted immediately that gaming temps got up to CPU 88c - 93c and GPU a steady 79c on the most demanding titles.

A simple fix to get those gaming temps down a bit without sacrificing perceived performance: in power settings restrict Maximum CPU usage to 99% thereby disabling turbo mode. It actually works well and I saw 5c to 10c temp reductions in CPU temps. Now showing 79c to 89c max CPU temps.

Screen isn't bad with some backlight bleed and depending upon the individual "may" be tolerable. Speakers were acceptable with volume being just a touch low for my taste but they did sound decent and not tinny. Build quality while not "premium" I would say is very good. All in all certainly worth $1499 IMO

Now HERE is the one issue that concerns me: the battery while having zero charge cycles was showing 5% wear right out of the box. Two days later with only 1 1/2 charge cycles is now showing 9% wear !

Anyone know why a battery would start out "new" at 5% and lose 4% in 2 days ???

Could be software monitoring being buggy - the only reason for concern would be if you start seeing drastically low battery life.

Just using HW Monitor, nothing fancy - battery life is already fairly poor but it is a gaming laptop with Gsync

HW Monitor is very finicky - I've had it showing my +12V rail on a desktop as basically not existing whereas it was claiming my +5V rail was supplying 20V. Battery monitoring is ONLY consistent through OEM software.
