I recently upgraded to windows 7 and noticed that my gpu no longer downclocks. I leave GPU-Z running and change the theme to basic, after sitting idle it never downclocks! I use the battery saving mode of power 4 gear (have tried using windows 7 power management as well) and it doesn't change anything. I have screwed around with all the power profiles and can't figure out why this doesn't work.

Laptop is a g51vx-rx05 (BB model) with the GTX 260m 8.17.11.9555 driver version.

Everything worked fine in vista, and I had previously flashed a custom bios with undervolting and downclocking for 2d.

it's different from nvidia driver to driver they beta/alpha/moded desktop drivers ..
Roll back to one that works for you.

Read up on ppl-s comment b4 installing as new driver.

195.55 is desktop driver .. guess modified inf from nvision.

I'm using 195.55 (so I can accelerate Flash 10.1 beta) and its downclocking fine. Not sure what your issue is, unfortunately.

Powermizer would not work for me in win7 with any driver I tried from 179.88 to 195.55

Try this. Fixed my idling at 550/1375/900 problems. You'll need a reboot though.

yes...I know what the powermizer switch is. Powermizer was enabled on every driver I tested: It'd downclock, but if I moved/maximized/minimized/did anything to an Aero enabled window it'd clock up to extra clocks. every single driver.

After enabling Powermizer using the switch, my clocks go to max only when I have a second monitor connected and enabled by HDMI or VGA. And I'm using 195.55. Otherwise they're generally at 200/400/120 when idle (383/something/something when watching a movie).

that is you. forge and I both have the same clock up issues in win7. I wouldn't be on vista if I hadn't exhausted every possible resource. Tried contacting asus but their only solution was an RMA, which is unacceptable as I don't know what the temps on a new GPU would be if I got it back, and the temps on my current are Epic.

sweet, glad they worked for you.... I've had great luck with them, and all the others kept my clocks at full speed all the time.
