    Hi, I haven’t found a forum or post with my issue so I’ll just attempt a fresh one!

    I own an ASUS K52JC notebook. I use it primarily for business and work but when I purchased it I also had the idea that I could play the occasional game on it as well seeing as its specs include :

    Core i5 Processor
    4gig Ram
    1GB GeForce Cuda 310m

    However, I tried to play Warcraft III (game released in 2003) and the game was lagging profusely at the lowest resolution and graphical settings.

    Needless to say I don’t even dare installing Diablo 3. :(

    My issue is that my laptop states that it has a GeForce Cuda 310m 1GB which in my mind (and I know mobile gfx cards aren’t all that) should be at least able to run a game from 2003.

    When I opened dxdiag in run, I noticed that it doesn’t show the GeForce Cuda 310m under “display” and doesn’t show it in my system summary, it only shows the generic onboard intel built-in-cpu graphics device.

    I’m pretty clued up with drivers and software so I made sure I have the newest best stable nvidia drivers for my device, still it doesn’t show.

    The other games I run clearly indicate that it (I hope) has to be the intel display device running my games because it really bottoms out on the graphics side.

    I’ve elmininated every other issue that I could think of.

    I would like to know if this is just the performance I will get, or if there is something I have to change in order for me to enjoy my laptop according to its specs.

    I recently run a test on Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements to test if I can run Diablo 3. It says that all my specs are fine (even says that my GeForce Cuda 1GB is sufficient) but at the bottom of the summary it says that I have 256mb of dedicated video memory available, by which I failed the test. Something doesn’t add up... :confused:

    Please help me! I’m at a complete loss here!

    Check Device Manager - what shows up under Display Adapters?

    From what This Site Says it has "Optimus" technology, which means Intel Integrated + nVidia discreet card... they are supposed to work together, but if the drivers aren't properly installed, it COULD cause it to stick with the Intel card, and Generic drivers.

    Hi Allan, thanks for the reply!

    I’ve checked my Display Adapters. It shows both the intel and the nVidia graphics adapters, both working fine without any errors.

    I downloaded the newest 310m compatible drivers and the nvidia panel is quite nice. It has the option to choose which gfx adapter you want to use, if not both, along with some other settings such as vertical sync and anastrophic filtering and the other usuals.

    I’ve tried all 3 settings in Diablo 3 last night (Only Geforce, Only Intel and Geforce/intel combined) and found that all
    3 settings give the same graphic results.

    I run Diablo at 640x480 at all the lowest settings. It stutters from lag and there is a 0.3-0.5 second mouse delay. It is for all material aspects unplayable.

    I’ve spoken to Asus tech support and I have had dedicated notebook specialists look at it. Nobody can figure it out.

    I’m a bit frustrated by now, because I paid a whole lot for the product and its only serving half its purpose. I can’t send it halfway around the world to be checked because its my only workstation.

    If anyone needs any details to assist them in identifying a possible problem with my laptop I’ll be glad to supply you with it.

    I’m pretty clued up with technology so any terminology can be used!

    Right I give up. Nobody knows. Asus can't help me, experts can't help me and it makes me bitter.

    Sorry for not looking at this thread again. I apologize, it's been busy at school.

    It could be a problem with THAT particular card - maybe, a bad soldering job, or badly seated, or maybe bad thermal paste. IF you were in the Toronto area, I'd suggest you take it to Markham Ontario (Cochrane Ave) and have them look at it there.

    Since that is probably not possible, I'd suggest going to the retailer and trying to do an exchange. (Most decent retailers have 7, 14, or 31 day exchange/return rates.)

    I wish I could help more, but, without seeing the issues in person, I'm not good at diagnostics.

    Edit: Check what version of DirectX you have installed ... probably NOT the issue, but, never hurts to check.
