LOL. There are a million G73 threads. The G73JH is currently ASUS' best gaming laptop. There are some 3D models coming out. I'd suggest pulling up their current lineup and taking a look.
-
Asus G73JH.
-
The G73JH would be a much better gaming laptop than the G51J 3D, the only 3D asus laptop I am aware of.
-
Another advantage of a 2D laptop is you won't look like a complete idiot.
-
G73JH for 17" gaming
G51JX for 15" gaming
and a few which I can't remeber for <15" gaming -
the G73 is the best laptop and is 2D.. Seriously , u don't won't 3D... u'd look like a looner gaming using those glasses and u'd get a crap 720p screen...

Cheers for the replies and sorry for creating another thread without looking first. You see, I had never thought of ASUS before and I stumbled upon that model and posted a question excitedly.
I think the 17" is the way to go personally. How does it compare to the M17X?
Now my dilemma is finding out where to get it. I'm from Ireland. -
In Ireland, it may be easier to find a Clevo for a decent price than an ASUS, so consider laptops based on the Clevo W870CU as an alternative.
As for how the m17x compares, well, in performance it's equal to the ASUS if you get the HD 5870, and more powerful if you get a Crossfire configuration, but it weighs 50% more and costs almost twice as much (in the U.S., at least). -
I would suggest you try to buy locally for both price effectiveness and support.
The Dell is a good computer for those who have money to burn. It is not the best deal for the price.
I would strongly recommend you look into the Clevo's as well. They are awesome computers. -
Just to let you know going 3D will usually cut performance by almost half. You're going to need a really beefy rig to play 3D games on highest settings.... but then again 3d seems to kill a lot of detail.

Yeah but the 3D screen is half the res (of the G51J/Jx) so it balances with having to draw twice as many fps. Still a complete gimmick IMO. Avatar was still overhyped crap 3D or not. Nvidia's still making G92 based GPUs whether or not they're sold with some immature feature involving dorky glasses.
The only advantage of the m17x is when Crossfire 5870s is available. Otherwise, too expensive, too heavy, too blingy.
I also wonder if the switchable graphics would work with crossfire 5870s - it would be one of the very few notebooks to have it all (except portability) -
The current use of 3-D is as bennyg put it, is a gimmick. Over the years it has come and gone, seems like once a decade it returns. Reminds me of another over used word, "Virtual" from a few years back when we were on the cusp of such bliss. "HD" was another buzzword. While HD video did offer better images over SD, the implementation was wrong (a situation that occurred because few were listening to the television engineers).
Certainly 3-D has come a long way since the late 19th century and further evolved since the mid 20th century. While polarization is better than anaglyph, it's those hideous glasses that continue to make the process cumbersome, and you a prime candidate for getting knocked over the head and robbed.
I think the 3-D screens are nothing more than a way to get the people who just spent recently over $1000 buying something new, like a new HDTV, to once again sheepishly open their wallet with the promise of... [add echo and say it in a deep voice].... Things... to... come. Or, would you prefer.... The world... of... tomorrow.
Then again, I could be wrong. -
Just checked up the price of the G73 and in Europe its €2,300. For that price I might as well get an Alienware!
-
As I said earlier, a Clevo would probably be cheaper.
-
Asus G73JH!
-
It certainly doesn't make sense to be adopting an early technology (though clearly not that new) that works shoddily at best.
