Hey all - I'm considering purchasing an Asus M6000BNE from Gentech Computers:
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...y_Code=Notebook
and I wanted to know if anyone here has any experience ordering from them - does anyone have anything in the way of a customer review?
Also - any reviews on the M6000BNE? I'm pro'ly going to get a Pentium M 730 (1.6GHz/533MHz FSB) - battery life is important to me (hence I have been looking for laptops that can take a 2nd battery instead of an optical drive) but I like a 15"+ display and a decently productive notebook that is still compact enough to be relatively portable.
Any advice/comments?
Also - given what I am looking for (listed in no particular order as they are all important):
Battery Life - ability to take 2nd battery.
15"+ Display
Pentium M - would take a Dothan if it saves money but the $$$ diff at Gentech seems negligible - was looking at the HP NC8000 but would have to buy one used - notebook needs to be relatively productive in terms of processing power but I probably won't be gaming much on it.
Around $1600 or therabouts (looking for ways to save $$$ still)
Relatively Portable - will be toting it to school in bookback or such - so a massive brick will get annoying after awhile...
Any suggestions (besides the Asus M6000BNE or HP NC8000) of notebooks/distributors that I can checkout?
Thanks!!!

You should talk to Justin at Protable One about buying an ASUS.
He is very knowledgeable.[8D]

I purchased an M6Ne from Gentech about 3 months ago. They processed my order pretty quickly. My only issue with them is that they ignored my request to check for dead pixels before sending me the system. So, I was pretty irritated when I received the system and found a dead pixel.
I contacted them about it and they told me to contact Asus regarding any issues. It seems to me that they're not interested in providing any service once they get your money. I wouldn't buy from them again. -
I seem to remember reading at www.proportable.com that Justin & Co. inspect every system before shipping. Like everyone else they still have a dead pixel policy, but knowing they personally check your system certainly gives some extra peace of mind.

I'd love to checkout proportable.com however it seems that their site is currently offline
Is Asus M6BNE the way to go - is there another laptop (given the specs I listed in my intial post) that I should take a look at as well?
Thanks!!! -
I don't think you can run a Pentium M 730 in the M6BNe since it doesn't have the i915 chipset (Alviso)
ASUS M6800Ne, P-M 1.5 Dothan, 512MB Ram, Toshiba Combo drive, Samsung Spinpoint M 40G HDD with 8M cache, Mobility Radeon 9700 -
Gentech has the Pentium M 730 listed as an option for the M6BNE on their site... curious...

You might want to wait for the ASUS W3N.
It will have a 14" wdiescreen and will have the new chipset.

I looked at their site and found out they did mention:
New! Intel Pentium-M 730 Yonah 1.6 GHz 533/2M (for Intel Alviso 915GM Chipset Only): $230
but there is only 1 model supports the new CPU the Asus Z71A:

They have the model number right for the 1.6, but it's still a Dothan... Yonah won't be out till maybe the end of the year at the earliest....... thats a fact.
Thanks,
Justin
