Have you tried using the recovery CD/DVDs that came with the computer? I think what happened is that they changed the hard drive and put a copy of vista Ultimate edition (VUE) on the recovery partition. When you reformat without using the discs, it takes the copy of VUE and restores it to the hard drive. If you recover from the CD/DVDs (which should have vista home) you should be ok.

I deleted the recovery partition when i get the laptop.
The hard drive has not been touched just the motherboard.
I format it using the CDs 2 times.

I don't see directly how this is related to the motherboard. If the recovery DVD installs Vista Ultimate, then the problem is most likely with the DVDs... I think you shouldn't have deleted that recovery partition :(

Is this the original DVD you got with the laptop?

And you used it before to install Home Edn.? This seems a bit strange. It would mean that the disk detects the hardware in the computer, from which it infers the region of the notebook, and then decides which version to install. This is not a very robust way to implement things, at least I wouldn't do it that way.

It seems more likely that the recovery DVD only contains Vista Ultimate.

Could you give more details? Did you install Vista Home Edn. from this DVD?

Yep i install home from the same CD many times

    that's what i think exactly

I buy mine from US but in our region (Middle east) the G1S comes with ultimate

    I'm sure its not.
It contains the 4 vista versions i think.
Any way this is a new thing you learned :p I'm waiting for ASUS replay

Q8PHANTOM is right, the Asus recovery DVD contains all versions of Windows Vista, the Recovery DVD reads what MB is in the notebook and recover the version for that model, for example, I can use G1S's recovery DVD and recover Windows on VX2S, the DVD reads it's VX2S MB and it recover Ultimate edition instead of Home premium.

First I thought it reads BIOS version but I guess it's not since the G1S you have should use the same BIOS, unless you want to try download and flash the BIOS and try.

Download from USA site, it might still be the BIOS because I was told by Asus they had to do something in the BIOS before they ship, maybe when they swap the motherboard they didn't adjust the settings for you in the BIOS, I am sure it's some hidden settings that they don't release to public.

Vista does come with all versions of Vista in the recovery partition, perhaps you are choosing the wrong version off the begginning of the recovery?

If worst comes to worst, download your own copy of Windows Vista OEM installation DVD which contains all versions of Vista, if you need help for a download source. Feel free to contact me. This may be the long way but it'll guarantee that you can use your appropriate CD key. The drawback with the OEM disk installation is that it won't install the ASUS drivers so you will need those readily available (at least to get yourself the WIFI driver so that you can download the rest of the drivers).

Not by much. About 45 minute installation, if you have all the drivers in hand and eliminates all the bloatware.

This is good to know (the way in which the Windows version is selected). Although it's a bit weird... and can lead to problems such as this one.

Post back with the results of the BIOS solution, so that we can determine if it's BIOS or something else.

It's not because of your internet connection, ASUS download servers are typically very slow.

I mean to download windows OEM.
I have did the BIOS thing doesn't affect anything.
I did something illegal :( I hate it but its just a little period of time because that's not my fault.
My friend has downloaded an OEM version of vista and he's waiting me to come back
As soon as i go back to Kuwait I will install it and it's SP1 so no need to download it again.
    Just one question
When they change the motherboard "/" cha doesn't work do they need to replace the whole keyboard. I will not leave my laptop with'em they are near me and Kuwait is small so i will ask them to check and then wait for the part from Dubai then bring back the laptop for them.
I'm waiting for ASUS replay also and will tell you anything new about this problem.

The keyboard is not difficult to replace, see any ASUS disassembly guide for the standard way in which it can be replaced.

So if you convince them to send you a new keyboard by post, and you send them back the faulty one, then that's the best option.

Thanks ;) in Kuwait we don't send things because its small country so i should go myself and ask them for a new keyboard so they can check the laptop themselves and it's their fault because this key was working .
Anyway thanks everything will be fine when i return to Kuwait.
