Hey how long does it take you to boot up the computer from the off position.
mine takes 1:48 minutes... (Not very Good)
Is there any way i can reduce that time to more like 1 minute.
I have all the normal drivers and programs installed that came with the laptop, but i have also installed creative soundblaster audigy 2 software for my audigy 2 ZX Notebook card...

Mine takes about 30 seconds.

ye that seems abnormaly high. I would reinstall the windows and this time watch what you install on it. On my m5n i had a weird issue that was basically the same. It took over 2 minutes for the hd led to go off after it went into windows. I ran some software that tests the hdd and it found a few bad sectors and flagged them, After that it boots fully in 30 sec. In your case i would say you run chkdsk /f from the repair console if that dont work reinstall. Also you can try hitachis recert program. I think they have a surface scan -
START-->RUN-->type msconfig...hit enter. Click the STARTUP tab. Get rid of all programs you don't need on start up by unclicking them and then restart. I shaved 25 seconds of my start up alone.

Yeah, those are basically all the reasons you're taking that long. Basically, there aren't more than 3 things you *need* to launch at startup...... if that.. But for the startup time you have, my guess is there's a lot of programs you're not even using that you have set up in there........ If you start getting into something like that whole weatherbug or programs like that, they tend to allocate a lot of ram and just tack on more time during boot.

I also had a fairly slow boot time. I was looking up whether or not different Start Up things need to be running and I stumbled upon this site. Very nice comprehensive list of various start-up programs and whether you need them or not. There are thousands, so the search feature is helpful.

Mine W3V takes about 36 seconds to bootup to windows.
Here are six easy steps to speedup your windows startup and your overall performance:
1: Remove all the fonts that you dont' need in the fonts folder.
2: Clean your system registry and startup (only if you know what you're doing)
3: Uninstal Norton, (it's useless, it only retards your computer)
4: Under network settings and change the login to "classic" by checking off "Welcome Screen". So when you startup it won't load all those pretty skins and icons. (I missed the rubber ducky icon)
5: Right click on "My Computer" and under properties "Advanced" tab, change your performance "Settings" to "Adjust for best performance". This will make your windows look like Win2K, no cute or pretty interfaces/icons. You windows will look very ugly and boring but at least your windows will load faster on startup and have a better overall performance when running all window applications.
6: If you still feel it's still slow, you should either add more RAM, or defrag your hard drive. .... or both.
Hope that helps. -
Try using this utility, bootvis. Although the report says that it does not improve boot time, i've used it on my own system (m6n) and i've found a huge difference as it seems to allocate all the programs that on startup to maybe the same place on the hard drive. You can find it at http://www.soft32.com/download_19687.html . Give it a try, see how it goes.

Get the bootvis from window, it sorts out your program loading orders to minimize boot tme. and as many stated above, get rid of thing that you don't need.
-
what the...
how do you guys get such fast boot times??!
I'm getting 1:44 to boot completely into windows:
16 seconds from pressing power button to end of POST
38 seconds to get to windows log in screen
+2 seconds for me to enter user password
1:20 for all programs to load
1:44 for hard drive activity to stop, trillian to finish AIM/MSN/ICQ log-in process, system ready for use.
I admit I do have quite a few resource hogs (ATi CCC for one), but still, a 36 second boot time? that's just.. wow. guess I'll try that bootvis program -
anyone knows a free boot analyzer? best would be something that not only tells you what is loading at startup, but also how long each file/process takes.

Check out this thread:

I was getting minute-and-a-half boot-up times out of the box; after optimizing, removing start-up programs I don't need, running bootvis, and ditching Norton in favor of NOD32, I'm down to 33 seconds. Getting rid of Norton made the biggest difference -- took it down to around 55 seconds. But everything else certainly helps. -
I find it interesting that nobody is mentioning which Power4Gear setting your computer is on when you startup. If it's in super or high performance mode, it's going to startup much more quickly than in battery saver or email/office mode.
Now I've only had my W3V for a day, so I admittedly could be incorrect. But this is what seems to be the case.

I'm undervolting with CHC, so I got rid of PowerGear. It overrides CHC and doesn't alow for dynamic switching. My unit runs cooler, and I get much more battery life with CHC instead of PowerGear.
-
Is it something that's already included with the computer, can it damage anything, and will it void my warranty? -
still i don't understand how you guys get boot times in the 30 seconds... that means windows completely loads in ~15 seconds, since the POST takes up ~15 already
-
CHC = Centrino Hardware Control
Basically the mother of all tweak programs for Centrino chipsets.

A lot of your boot up time also depends on what processes start up right away, how much memory, etc etc. -
That 33 seconds I report is what bootvis tells me -- obviously, since it's software, it's reporting the time for Windows to boot up. Complete time with POST is longer, although I haven't ever actually timed it. My point is, though, that after optimization / removing unnecessary boot-up software / running bootvis, I have shaved a minute off the out-of-the-box boot-up time. Which you gotta admit is pretty darned good.
Since I use the computer a couple times a day, I usually just hibernate when I'm done, knowing that I'll be plugging back into AC in a few hours, and that of course only takes 10-or 15 seconds total. -
By messing with the "msconfig" services tab, is there any way you can seriously mess up the computer.
If anything when you go to use the service it will just simply have to boot up right?
Is this the same with Startup? -

just out of curiosity to you guys know if bootvis can customize boot sequence. For example say I want CHC to start before avg anti virus is that possible with boot vis? if not do you know anyway to do so without having to reinstall xp and put on chc first? i really would love to avoid that... having it start up first would cut a few degrees off my temp which would be nice... also barong what is NOD32? Any other antivirus ppl would recommend?
-
but I'm more interested in time from pressing power button to time system is fully responsive in windows. bootvis didn't do much for me, after running it, my boot time decreased from 1:44 to about 1:40
-
bootvis could never "optimize" my boot time, everytime i tried to do it, the program would freeze... unless its suppossed to take longer thant 30 minutes to do it.
-
bootvis took a good bit of time to optimize boot-up, but certainly not 30 minutes. Sounds like you've got a conflict somewhere. Delete/reinstall?
-
turns out i had a service that was required disabled. re-enabled the service and it ran like a charm. -
which service? I have that nastly little error too but wasn't able to pin point the service..
one more question...how do you get into the BIOS? i tried the DEL key, the ESC key, F8, F10..nothing worked. -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
F2 to enter bios. Try your dealer for service. Many of us do offer support for ensemble.
-
hehe..i was talking about the service thats needed for bootvis to work. I get a timeout message when i try to use. Makken said he had the same problem and enabled some service and it worked for him, thus the question, which service... -

i'll look into that, thanks for the info
