I'm looking to invest for some simple yet reputable quality speakers for my w3j. Preferably something i could find at the nearest best buy, compusa, etc (I don't have a circuit city within 300 miles though =P)

Check out the Logitech V20. They are strictly USB driven including the power, portable and has been rated as being very good.

i'd say the logitech x-230s, a 2.1 system with i believe about 40 watts... 6 inch sub, good reviews, good sound.

Of course, if you want to spend a little extra, the logitech z300s are soldi. 200 watts, everyone who has them including myself loves them.

Klipsch has a good 2.1 system as well.

i'm not so much a fan of the creative's with their small drivers...

I'm personally a big fan of the Creative 2.1 systems. They sound great, can get pretty load, and take up minimal room on your desk.

The I-Trigue 3600 system is what I have and they're awesome.

Ordering online would probably be much cheaper than Best Buy and stuff like that.

If you're looking for anything from 2.1 to 5.1's - Klipsch can't be beat sound quality wise. Yes, they're going to be more expensive than Logitech and Creative, but I guarentee you that you won't regret the purchase. I have a 5.1 pro media ultra kit I bought back in 2001 and the quality is unreal, even at obscene levels... The highest quality computer speaker sets you can buy.

What about portable speakers, like the Logitech mm28 or the Creative TravelSound 500?

I know they're not in the same class as the larger speakers above, but I'm looking for a little extra umph in a small package for when I'm traveling.
