After doing some extensive research, I decided to purchase the Asus M6Ne, non widescreen model. I upgraded from a Compaq Evo N610c. I purchased my notebook from gentechpc.com. They shipped my notebook very shortly after placing my order.
There are a lot of models out there that I considered. The biggest problem is that many of them come only in silver and I really didn't want a silver notebook.
The M6Ne definitely wins in the style category.
I installed all of the components after I received the notebook and fired it up. Immediately after installing Windows I discovered a dead pixel in the lower right corner of the screen. That doesn't make me feel good about the $1700+ I spent on this notebook. I have had a number of notebooks over the past few years and have never had a dead pixel. Why now?
I'm also trying to adjust to the display on this notebook. Much of the text is difficult to read because of the brightness of the display. It tends to wash out a lot of the text. It's much different from my Samsung 17" LCD monitor for my desktop and the Compaq Evo display.
I will say that the white on the LCD looks much more like white than either the Samsung or the Evo, which is a good thing. I'm not impressed with the quality of the images in comparison to my Samsung, however.
I'm also second guessing my purchase of a notebook this size. Width-wise, this thing is huge. It barely fits in my laptop bag.
It is a very nice notebook though. But, I'm a bit disappointed with my purchase. A 14.1" model without a dead pixel would definitely make me feel happy about my purchase.

I agree. If a 14.1" version of the M6Ne was sold in North America, I would buy it for sure.
I have two dead pixels on my M6Ne non-widescreen... but I've come to ignore them.
I find the text it just fine as long as you're on the native resolution. Anything less and the text appears blurry...

Indeed. After a while, you'll start to love it and appreciate it much more [

I switched to native resolution and things look much better. I'm a little irritated at the dead pixel because its new out the box. But, I'll get over it with time. My Samsung had a dead pixel shortly after I got it. Now, it's an afterthought.
If Asus ever brings the 14.1" to North America, I will definitely trade this one for it. For now, the current model is growing on me!

Asus does make a 14.1" model. It's an M3N. It comes in XGA and SXGA. SXGA only comes in black, XGA comes in silver or black.

Unfortunately the M3N comes with integrated graphics..ie intel extreme. So while it is still a great notebook, it aint a 14.1" M6N with ati9700. On that note rumours (digi times) are that ASUS will be releasing a 14" notebook based on the new alviso chipset in 1Q 2005, its possible that this maybe a M6N type beastie, hopefully we will know in the next few weeks, assuming intel is still on track for a late jan release date.
