Well, realistically, what are your options?

If your are so uptight about a scratch, then just stay with the SONY. The loss replacing the LCD may be greater then the loss on selling the unit.

So...is this the begining of another 10 page "what should I do" thread? The scratch seems to be in a familiar place. Is it certain that Learning_Asus is not SexyBeast?

There are definitely cons with the Z73V, it being 17'' is one of them. Not that i didnt know I was sacrificing portability for screen size.

That is true, I could sell it for a loss, and not lose nearly as much as buying a new LCD for it.

    I could.

    a) sell as loss, considerably cheaper than what I paid and keep the sony, get an ext. LCD for it.

    b) keep the ASUS, refund the sony, no need for ext. LCD. Live with mark.

    c) Pay the $680 and keep the ASUS, no need for ext. LCD.

i think im best off selling it rather than replacing the lcd.

Other than that, Ive been without the unit for 2 days now and Im already missing it. I have come to a conclusion that the ASUS looks better than my Sony VAIO. its close, but the darker colours on the z83v is what tops it over the vaio.

Not worth it... and this thread has no real point either. What others would do in your situation is totally irrelevant; it's what YOU feel like you should do that matters.

If you want to keep the Sony... do so.
If you think the Asus is worth it... repair it and return whatever else you have.

Dude, 2 years ago I bought a mountain bike for well over $3,000. I was pretty bummed when I got my 1st scratch. Well, now I think I have scratches that cover that 1st scratch (and the frame is even anodized). The thing is, the bike is a tool, just like your lappy. **** happens, and it will continue to happen. It won’t be new forever, and 6 months from now you’ll forget the scratch was even there.

Quit worrying about it - or at least quit bugging us about it.

Well I dont know much about notebooks so just wanted to get others feedback.

I first must decide which one I will be keeping, the asus or sony. If I keep the ASUS, I might pay the money to fix it, considering I wont have to worry about it again and its gone for good. When it comes to reselling, I will be able to get more. I can refund the sony no hassles. Also, no need for ext. LCD. I sacrifice portability, but then again I rarely move my laptop around.

If I keep the sony, well the first thing that worries me is, the brand ASUS. Not everyone knows about them and therefore have been told it is not as easy to sell as say an IBM, toshiba, etc. It could be some time before I get something back from it. I would also have to get a larger ext. LCD for at home due to the smaller size. But the Sony does offer more portability.

Though, I know people who say anyone would be nuts to choose a Sony over ASUS when it comes to straight hardware and the performance/warranty/quality parts. etc.

I agree with Greg 100% in about 6months - 1year there'll probably be something else wrong with it, just suck up the *hairline* scratch, no need to spend that much money.

I have to decide, 15.5 or 17''. I like them both. When I use a 17, im in love with the screen, I definitely prefer it over a 15.4. I dont have the best eyes either so it helps. But when it comes to moving it around, its not the best. But then again, I rarely move my laptop around period.

When Im on a 15.4, I really wish I had a larger LCD. But I do appreciate how easy and smaller it is to move around.

dude..scratches happen. that is very expensive for the lcd.
why not go to screentek and see if they have an option for you...probably a cheaper option too

I have called the guy, and would do it, but I cant locate the part no. for the LCD screen. ASUS wont just give it out either. :( I need the part no. to give to him to make sure they are able to get that exact same one or find one that is compatible with my model, in case something goes wrong while they are fixing and they will replace. If they cant, then they cant do anything.

Folks are giving you their feedback...in a nutshell, that feedback is that you are making a big deal about nothing and you place us in a no-win situation...no matter what anyone says, you disagree.

    ok...get the Sony

    ok...get the Asus

Yeah! You can not keep it perfect forever... But, what exacity happen when scratch appear?
I think repair it for 600 dollar is not worth it at all. Its 1/3 of price of a new laptop... :(

Ok, I'm going to attempt to respond in as open a matter as I can.

I understand everyone's frustration with this topic, and I also understand where Learning is coming from. My car was barely 1 year old when the whole headlight unit, the area behind it, and the molding in the area got totally FUBAR. At the time, it was very emotional and stressful. However, as everyone has said, the bottom line is that you've purchased this laptop to use as a tool. While I was totally depressed that my car was F'd up, I got over it soon enough and realized that in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal. I'm still happy with the car and wouldn't just chuck it for another because of that issue.

As everyone's said, the ultimate decision is yours, however my suggestion is simple: If you really like your ASUS laptop, a tiny scratch on the LCD will not make it perform any worse or last any shorter duration. Trading the entire unit for a cosmetic issue isn't worth the loss you'd incur by no longer having the laptop that you're otherwise happy with. On that same token, think of what else that $600+ could get you - not interms of other computer parephrenalia, but in terms of other things for school/work/going out with your significant other/etc. $600 can go a long way . . . In the end, you have to do what makes you happy but I say enjoy your laptop, as-is, and enjoy your $600 in another way.

    Just my $0.02

Justin told you exactly where to find the part number in a previous thread. If you really wanted to make a final decision, you would have by now...unless there is something seriously wrong with you.

    I smell a troll.

I think your computer scratched its own screen.... I'm not trying to say it was trying to take its own life, but perhaps it realized all you've done since you've owned it was ***** about it and spend more time on here telling everyone all of your (self induced) problems and did it because you were ignoring it?

Either way, I think you could add and option to the poll... I've got a perfect one that I'd vote for: "Use the $650 for a few sessions with a shrink".

I don't think you should fix it, or sell it....... I think you should live with it. You caused the problem and if it's not worth the cost of fixing it - it's not worth the cost of selling it and losing that money either....... If the scratch bothers you so much, then hook it up to a desktop monitor and use it that way..... you made your bed... now sleep in it.

There's no doubt that Sexy Beast and learning Asus are one and the same person...without sounding rude, you need to make a decision, move on and leave everyone in this forum alone. You're wasting our time and driving us insane...I know what I'm saying now to you is going to go in one ear and right out the other, but please try and solve this issue on your own from now on...you have more than enough opinions if an opinion is what you want. If you really, really can't decide, which obviously isn't the case, then simply Choose one of the opinions someone's already given you at random and call it a day.

For everyone's sake, please don't post another reply or thread on anything to do with this particular situation...seriously...or since you seem to have both a Sony and a Mac as has been mentioned, why not see what those forum members think you should do? I heard they really enjoy doing polls just like this one :)
