Must say it's an amazing laptop. Ive been looking for a system like this for weeks. This is the exact configuration Ive been looking for.

i do have a questions for current users though.

The laptop comes with a 1394 firewire port. Unfortunetly this is the first time I see a plug like this. I have an ipod and the firewire cable and plug have a different design. Im a bit baffled. Is there something Im missing? Is there some sort of conversion plug from apple firewire plugs to this plug on the asus laptop?

Also the bay below the card reader. Anybody managed to open that and tell me what that's for? lol

    Thanks a bunch

apple uses one firewire standard (like desktops) and notebooks use another.... probably so not to confuse it with the usb plugs and to make it smaller.

    There are adapter plugs.

That bay isn't used..... it will eventually be for an express card slot.... which doesn't make much sense as you'd think that'd replace the pcmcia slot...... but apparently they may put both on there with some refresh.

so at some point we'll have lots of threads about the "Z71v refresh", like the "Z70v refresh" threads we've got now? Cool! :)

Tight now there are two "main" types of firewire 4 pin, tiny almost square note book option, and 6 pin desktop option. I think theree may actually be a third type 9 pin but I have yet to see it. Be careful because some of the mini USB look VERY similiar.
