I just got my Asus G71GX RX05 from Best Buy and I was wondering what tests I should do to see if there's any problems with the laptop. I keep seeing and hearing about furmark and 3dmark06 and stuff like that , should I run those? What would be some ways I can stress test the laptop in a day or so?

get rid of the horrible bloatware thats installed on it, just go thru and get rid of everything u wont use. Adjust what apps start up when u start up the computer
get the bios update from live update
make sure to take hibernate off and change it to sleep on all the power plans. and go have fun. game it up. I'm not much for the benchmark testing, so i skipped that lol, specially since i dont wanna buy the benchmarks and am stuck with their stock settings.

Clean install and tweaks > benchmark it > overclock it > benchmark it again > show of your new toys awesomeness here on NBR > GAME ON!

How would I clean install it? Simply by booting from the backup disk? Would that delete any useful programs?

Seriously... i do not know why half you guys clean install. There is no reason too. Just tweak it. Delete the bloat, tweak vista, overclock, benchmark, and game... I'm almost pushing 11k 3dmark06 on a G51. Maybe i should do a clean install LOL.

I'm curious the G71GX has 2 hdd bays right? Where would they be located, so I can put in my hard drive from my failed laptop. Also does the G71GX have an OLED?

See the ASUS Info Booth for both:

    * Clean install guide. That's one of the questions in theFAQ.
    * Bloatware cleanup guide. That's one of the links under Miscellaneous.

The Info Booth is there for a reason.
