I got my G1 today! Pretty sad waiting all day for it. UPS loads it on truck at 5:30am. Truck leae at 8:05am. But I don't get it till 3:45pm.

Everything seems to be ok. I wish the screen was a bit brighter. My Sony SZ160p was brighter but then again, it was one of the first notebooks to use LED as backlighting. And I wish there was a way to edit the OLED display more. Also, is there something that tells me what makes each of the G1 settings does? Example: Entertainment Mode, Quiet Office, High Performance mode does? Hey, I'm plugged in, but I don't see a "SUper high performance mode. In the manual it shows that as an option.

I'm gonna wipe the harddrive when I get home.

I have a couple of question. I hope someone reads this b4 I format.

    1) The two CDs in the box is all I need to do a restore, right? Nothing to back up?

    2) Asus saw it fit to create multi partitions. One for Vista, and one as storage. All ok to redo all the partitions, right?

Yes the discs will be all you need to do a reformat/recovery.

Yes you can delete all the partitions and start anew as long as you have the discs to back everything up then you don't need the extra partitions.

How do I get into Bios? I did it once by accident.
Also, I noticed there was a hidden 4 or 5gb partition. Whats that for?

And I'll probably figure this out, but is the recovery dvd standard recovery cd? As in a Vista home premium? And only thing asus is the driver cd? I ask this as I would install my Vista Ultimate, then all I need is the secondary disk..?

My G1 came with a busted vista sysprep image. so i had to use the recovery DVD.
it puts on a base Vista Home Premium image (that has been activated), but you have to install your drivers yourself. I thought i wanted Ultimate edition too, but Home Premium does everything i want it to, however, i've just stuck a pair of 2Gb dimms in there, so i would like the 64bit edition to be able to see all of it. at the moment i got 2.89Gb available. :/

Done with my winXP Media ed and Vista dual boot. Worked out easier than I thought. Is a score of 4.6 right for the Vista side of things?

Btw, the easiest way I did the dual boot:
    1) Redo the partitions. Make one your xp,the other your vista.
    2) Do a complete install of Windows XP. Install the drivers. Btw, there ae some drivers missing from that site where someone off loaded all (well, most) of the drivers. So if you get errors, move the drivers that didnt install to the side, and download from Asus the missing drivers, then go back in install the reast.
    3) I did all my windows xp updates to make sure it worked.
    4) while in windows XP, I stuck in my Vista Ultimate and ran it.
    5) Told it I wanted it on a different partition than my XP
    6) It installed. THen I stuck in the driver CD that came with the G1.
    7) I not have both running.
Btw, I gave XP about 95GB and Vista 55GB. Since I play mostly games.

Oh there is 3 partitions when I started. Asus as a restore (Hey, how do I use this?) partition, a Vista partition, and a Program partition. I removed the vista and program partition and then created two of my own.

To go to BIOs, it's one of the function keys, as for which, I believe it is F2 - however, I'm not 100% sure since I don't think I ever went to BIOs in the past year :p

It's the F2 button for entering bios. The hidden partition is a restore partition. When booting you press a key combination (don't know which) and you can restore your computer without your dvd.

see, thats that I want to know. It would be so much easier to do a restore from the computer then from the cd. oh well.
Just picked up a pack of lightscribe dvds. Gonna see if this drive is any good.

So far its a dual bootingXPmedia edition/Vista Ultimate. So far I think everything is ok. I did see the windowsXP side not open IE sometimes where it crashes, but I dunno the reason why. Also some things don't work like listed below.

    1) In WinXP- Do I need the modem helper?
    2) In WinXP/Vista- Asus MultiFrame all it does is allow you to move your windows around, right?
    3) In WinXP/Vista What the heck does each of the Power 4 gear do? I mean, whats the difference between Super Performance/High performance? I don't see anything that would make one faster than the other...?
    4) Did you guys get the email notification to work? I have Outlook 2007/Vista Mail and I cant seem to get it to tell me I got new mail. I think once I saw the blue light flash. another time I saw it scroll in the OLED screen, but its not consistant.
    5) Is XP Media edition just as stable WindowsXP Pro?
