I figured this has been asked a lot, and I actually did do a search of it on the forums and found two websites. I've seemed to have lost both and recall that the directions were a little sketchy to begin with. Thanks for the help!

Well here's the thing...... I know at least in North America, there is a little sheet in the accessory box of all of the models that have shipped over the last month and half at least....... that sheet explains what you need to do.. the website and all the details.

Or just go to HERE.
Click on Windows Vista logo at the bottom and follow the instructions. -
Thanks, I have just one simple question:
Is there any significant disadvantage of going with 64-bit OS vs. 32-bit OS? Esp. 64-bit vista? -
64-bit will be more future-proof and you take the advantage of the 64-bit processor, however, if you have Media Center Edition or XP Home Edition Pre-Installed then you are only eligible of getting upgrade to 32-Bit Vista, if you have XP Pro or XP Tablet Edition then you will have the option to choose either 32-Bit or 64-Bit.

The biggest downside to 64 bit is going to be hardware support for the foreseeable future, most companies do not support XP 64bit yet and that's been out a couple of years, all drivers in Vista 64bit have to be signed by MS so even if all companies had drivers ready now (which they don't) it would take a while for MS to check the all and certify them. Personally I have gone for the 32bit version as the only app I use that I was hoping to be 64bit any time soon was Photoshop and Adobe have stated that the next release of that is going to be 32bit anyway with no plans for a 64bit version.
64bit only looks really useful at the moment for CAD professionals and other 3d imaging applications (NOT games!)
So in answer to your question - compatibility is a big reason not to get 64bit

I can't see Asus going with the 64bit Vista pre-installed for 6-9 months...... even if they can iron our their drivers, there are still plenty of things that are going to have problems...... Anyone who thought driver issues between Win98 and XP caused issues, this is much worse. Now, if you were going to hold that upgrde copy until say the first service pack came out, I'd see if I could upgrade to the 64bit version.... but I'd make sure all of your hardware drivers have certified 64bit vista drivers before you even think of upgrading.
Got my G1. Now where do I claim my V ista
