I know this has probably been posted before, but there are simply too many g1s threads, and I cant seem to find it. Anyways what should I do now? which bloatware should I delete? Should I install windows again or something?

If your familar with windows and how to install it, a clean install is one way to go. But you can just find the various programs you will never use and uninstall them and go from there.

I dont think we have an actual list of programs that should be removed by the average user compiled, your best bet is probably to google your processes and read up on them and see if its somthing you need or not, then use msconfig to disable them, same for programs except you can uninstall them.

Really the only important thing is any of the programs that run at startup, anything else wont hurt performance.

My G1S just arrived today. I haven't had a chance to open the box yet (still at work) but if I can locate all the drivers, which I assume will be on a CD or directory somewhere, I will do a clean vista install once I have a block of time. I'll post the results/process if anyone is interested.

For both posters, is your screen grainy?
If you don't perform a clean install then just comb through the msconfig start-up list and then uninstall the apps that you don't need.

In terms of bloatware, remove Asus Live Update, Norton, and possibly Splendid and P4G Extreme, maybe even Multi-frame.

Most people don't need Splendid, but some keep it.
If you plan on controlling your own power management remove P4G Extreme and use the alternatives like NHC and RMClock or use a combination.

Some people like multi-frame, some don't, it is the little top right icon in each window, which allows for window manipulations, is pretty neat.

Then to speed things up in terms of your boot time you will want to go through your msconfig.

    Enjoy :D

I have not noticed the grainy screen yet...However, I have yet to get online or anything.

But the desktop and other menus look great so far. :)

The grainy screen is when you see large white areas on your screen such as white backgrounds, etc...

Other than that any darker backgrounds or whatever is displaying you won't see the graininess.

I originally wanted to use this wallpaper that I like which is a white background for most and an anime character, but the graininess of the screen made me opt to use another darker wallpaper, which I don't mind, now I have a pretty neat black/grey/onyx like theme going on on my G1S which I'm liking a lot.

Anyways, I just uninstalled the Splendit and the checkmail apps, and I'm thinking of removing the multiframe too.

I've installed Norton ISP 2007 retail over the Norton it came with, and I've installed all my games, Warcraft III/TFT is giving me problems, and Blizzard hasn't responded as to why it ain't working, even after I've sent in an email to their support.

Other than that, all other apps I've installed works fine, it's way faster than my desktop, and I've bought a single APC surge unit, I've gotten a notebook cooler and a notebook stand by coolermaster, a 25' network cable.

One little thing I don't like about the G1S, is the powercable from the wall to the AC adapter was too short, it's like 1' foot. Thank god I work in IT and I have tons of spare power cables for notebooks, which are 6' feet cables. Also the AC adapter gets really hot when your machine is on, but then your machine is off and if it's still plugged into the adapter the adapter is cool.

How do you flip through the windows in Vista?

Or do you have to have ultimate for that?

And at what level should I recharge my battery? Or low should I let it go?

probably there is a post on this too, but what is the best way to make a backup of the clean system before starting (in case things go horribly awry)?

Please post back or PM me when you get your TFT issue resolved. It is the main game I play and would hate it not to work with this laptop. On the fence about buying one.

I've decided not to do a clean install. There really wasn't much bloatware to get rid of to begin with. Compared to Hps and especially Vaios, the G1s come downright pristine.

I have not gotten mine yet (tomorrow is when it is scheduled) and I was debating whether or not to do it but I guess it looks like spending a little quality time with the uninstallation software will be quite sufficient. ;) *wink*

Sorry...decided a clean install wasn't necessary. IMHO, the G1S really doesn't come with enough bloatware to warrant a clean install.

    :(

That's cool, glad to hear there wasn't too much, I'd really prefer it that way to begin with! :D

    Thanks anyway.
