could you make some pics anyway? there are not many picstures by owners and the press pictures are always edited.

how fast is the core duo 1.6Ghz compared to Desktop Pentium 4? like... 2.8 Ghz? Could you play CSS on it (if you have) set all grafics to maximum, thought AA off, and tell us the FPS? :)

How loud is the Fan when its at maximum and how long is it at maximum?

EXACTLY why you like to see "real" pics...not Photoshopped...etc.

Nothing more authentic than a picture of it sitting on a desk somewhere, that could be yours.

I dont hear the fan very often, just the disk now and then, if you go to 2005 3Dmark page, you probably can see the scores of different CPUs...

What I do for you guys, just took it with my mobile... ;)

    Congratulation melorib.

I got my A6J not long ago. I cant say a single bad word about it. I am 100% happy with it. The keyboard is great isnt it?? I have never used a keyboard that feels so nice to use. If anyone is wondering whether to get one of these i have to recommend it 100%.

It may not look as fancy and sexy as other models but who cares? Its what it can do and what it costs that matters most to me. and the A6J delivers it all!

It's about right, the Pentium M itself is 1.6x-1.9x itself to match the P4HT.

If anything, those scores of the Core Duo should be higher. 1.66 - 3.4 P4HT is more like it

I am going to be nitpicking here - if you are going to make assumptions like these you should have a source to back it up.

The two core architectures are very different and are targetting two different markets.

It is oversimplified and you will find that a Pentium 4 at 4.00Ghz will have an edge against even the Yonah 2.16Ghz at many tasks (especially FPU intensive applications).

However, the Yonah excels at its intended market, being a notebook processor with a low Thermal Design Power and excellent performance.

Melorib: What is it you exactly wanna accomplish? You can't change driver letter of a boot/OS partition, without reformatting it. What you can do, is reformat the partition where the German XP installation lies and use it for storage purpose instead. This will still keep your English XP intact on the D partition, but you'll have an empty C partition, which of course now has a changeable driver letter. I don't know if I could cope with having D as my OS drive letter, but hey, life is full of changes :D

Here's some infromation from ms, you might wanna read:

    Melorib,

I'm onto purchasing the A6Ja-Q007H with a harddisk upgrade to 80gb 7200rpm. I do have some questions though and I hope you can help me with these questions:

    1) About the screen: does it indeed reflect that much as is said in multiple reviews online? Maybe you can make a picture of your laptop when it's standing in daylight, in front the window or something? :)

    2) Since it is an Asus laptop, it will have an Asus motherboard. Does this laptop include the functionality of only listening to a cd when the computer is not completely started up? I.e.: Windows is not loaded, but can you already listen to a cd?

    3) Does the laptop make a lot of noise, or is it rather quiet? Does it make a lot more noise when the computer's working hard?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers. I know I've just signed on today, but these are some questions which more people whom I know have. Thank you again!

    1) Yes it does reflect a lot, but the image is so good I can still read better than with mate screens, it really looks good, even with reflections...

    2) Yes, you dont even have to open the lid, the controls are still accessible...

    3) I rarely hear it working, sometimes I can hear the disc, and particularly readind CDs the fan blows noticeably...

Wow, that's cool. So you can just pop in a cd and start listening it? Do you maybe know how long the laptop will run cd's without the computer loaded? I.e.: how many hours can you listen to the music?

One last thing: does the 7200rpm 80gb harddisk produce a too high temperature? Or is it hardly noticable by temperature that you've got this great harddisk in the laptop?

Thank you very much! These answers have already convinced me of buying this laptop, it's just an amazing thing!

I dont use the ASUS to play CDs, although I was surprised by the quality of its speakers, when I played the demo included...

It has different power modes depending of the usage, so it should last very long just playing CDs...

The right side of the laptop, where the HD is, gets a bit warm, not unconfortable, I feel it when I use the mouse pad, but since I got a Bluetooth mouse, I dont touch there any more...

I'm just a bit curious about the keyboard. On the bottom left most key, is that the fn key or the ctrl key? For most laptops I think it's a ctrl key, but that's not the case for this one? Also, I've read a review that says the keyboard is a little stiff, how's it feel so far?

I think for all Asus notebooks, the bottom left-most key is a Fn key.

    Fn

As I said, I love the keyboard, the little extra stiffness feels like more quality, soft keyboards feel cheap, I am never sure if the key worked or not...

Fn on the left bottom, ctrl to the right of it. Should have been the other way around IMHO, ctrl to the bottom left and fn to the right of ctrl...

the keyboard feels really good imho, one of the nicest keyboards ive ever tried.

One final question and I'm pretty much sold. When you go into display settings, is there a choice to stretch the screen while maintaining aspect ratio? My old laptop only had an option to stretch to all 4 sides of the screen which would distort all my old games.

I just need a bit of clearing up with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 on this laptop? I notice it says that it has 256mb VRAM. With a laptop such as the Acer Travelmate 8204, it also has this card but it says it has 256VRAM with up to 512 hypermemory. Is this also the case with the Asus A6JA or is this only on the 8204?

lightation, remember that ALL notebooks will have fans blazing at full speed when running at max performance all the time.

You can't have a quiet notebook that is running at full performance because it needs to stay cool.

I'm sure the fan noise is acceptable.

A6Ja is not available in US. But you can get A6Jc with nVidia GeForce Go 7300 with 128MB video memory. Don't know if it is enough for you.I received mine yesterday.

    Hi,

Im thinking of getting the A6Ja instead of a sony vaio i had in mind. I have a few questions though:

    1) Is the screen matte or glossy?

    2) Is there a lot of bloatware pre-installed?

    3) What is the ASUS customer service like?

    4) What is the build quality like?

    5) Whats so good about the keyboard?

    Thanks!
