I'm trying to figure out a problem I'm having with the screen on my u36sd. When I first got it, I noticed it looked really grainy (especially noticeable on lighter colours). I thought it was just the screen quality until I opened the 'Splendid Utility' for the first time and it prompted me to use a 32bit setting. I thought this was odd since the display was already set to 32bit according to the settings in control panel. After confirming the setting change in Splendid, the graininess went away. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the graininess has come back and splendid won't prompt me for the change again.

Does anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it?

    ---Edit---

I managed to replicate the prompt by changing the colour depth setting in the 'Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel' to 16bit and then reopening 'Splendid Utility'. This is a seriously roundabout way of dealing with the issue but it seems to solve it. Any further insights would be appreciated.

What is the Splendid Utility good for? Maybe you can just uninstall it. I don't even have it installed on my U36JC--I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 with just drivers for video, sound, LAN, WLAN, etc. No extra programs needed. :)

Not sure to tell you the truth. It seems to adjust saturation for various use cases. I figured I'd run with the stock programs for a while and see which ones are useful before pairing them down.

On a side note, I don't think Splendid actually fixed anything. The issue appears to be the 32bit setting itself. Setting it to 16bit is what seems to cure the problem, although it's a trade-off between graininess and splotchiness at that point...

I think I need to spend some time updating all my drivers and removing some of the cooks from the kitchen (Splendid being one of them).
