Ahh yes. The G71V. Just about the only laptop that could steer me away from my faithful 6860FX. If I were rich, that is. :D

I am now just waiting for the G71V's UK version official spec. Every website I see them for pre-sale on has a different spec to any other yet they all have the same Asus model numbers.

It says it comes with a Siberia Steel Gaming Headset as well, which is pretty cool.

My issue with the G71 is the fact that is uses a 9700 GT (which is pretty weak for a 17 inch gaming notebook if you are comparing it to the competition). I also hope that the G71 at least has room for another GPU like the G70 does.

not worth it, the screen increase is nice, and its supposed to have the media touch pad and thats nice, but the quad is near pointless in a notebook unless your using it for a encoding workstation.

I think the G70sg with the 9800M gts is much better than the quad core extreme g71v. It will probably be around the same price too.

Agreed! Quad extreme is overkill and the 9700GT is weak for a laptop of this price! Stick a C2D in it with a 9800GTS! Who is going to buy this?

    Hi.

    The g71v comes with a Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset + ICH9M-E.
What is this? I can't find it on the UK models. The UK model is offering 2GB of Turbo Memory. Is this the same thing? Or is it just another type of processor eg T9300?

Also on the US versions it says it comes with the 9700m gt and the UK version comes with the 9700m gs. I can't even find any info on the gs version. Should it read gt?

    Cheers,
    Hewi

The PM45 Express Chipset is the control logic for the CPU and components. It is the same on all G71V's. The ICH9M-E is the second part of the chipset, in this case its the southbridge that controls the HDD's and 90% of I/O functions.

Both UK and US models can have the 2GB Turbo memory option, its a small cache for the HDD and other Vista features.

I think the UK specs are a mis-print. They all seem to have the 9700mGT and nVidia dont list a GS part for the 9700m.

If you look closely at the Nexus13 and Scan specs they are different but they are the same laptop (exact same model numbers) so its all up in the air until the are released.

I am waiting until the specs are adjusted to the same as the ones on the UK asus site (look under RRP prices on asus to download the Excel sheet with specs and prices for the G71V) before I place a pre-order with Scan(Not cheapest but Nexus13 does not look like a good website + I have dealt with Scan frequently so may be able to use my contacts to get a better deal).

I was hoping for a 9800m of some flavour.... Looks like slight overclocking my be needed if the temps are under control.

Looks like the next step up is the G70SG but its also a huge money step as well plus it may not be available in all locations.
