It is illegal to redistribute copyrighted material, including Microsoft XP. At best you might be able to make a nlite Driver pack to make your own slipstreamed versions, Theres no reason you cant do this yourself though.

Thanks for the reply matt. I will look at nlite but if someone could come up with an "Idiots guide to slipstreaming XP for V1S" it would be most welcome.

Slipstreaming SATA driver into XP installation:

    1. Download SATA drivers: Intel SATA 7.6.0.1011

    2. Extraxt with Winzip or similar to a dir of your choice (eg. C:\SATADRV). You get f6flpy32.exe file. You can extract this one with Winrar. You get F32.IMA file. Open it with UltraISO or similar and extract files.

    3. Install Nlite.

    4. Insert your original Windows XP CD (click Exit on autorun).

    5. Start Nlite, click Next.

    6. Select your XP CD-Rom (where it says Locating Windows Installation). Click OK. Now select (or create) a folder where the files will be copied (eg. C:\NLITEXP). Click Ok. Now Nlite will copy your XP CDrom to the folder. Wait... When finished click Next, and again Next.

    7. Now you should be at the menu for integration, removing, ... Where it says Integrate, select Drivers and where it says Create, select Bootable ISO. Click Next.

    8. Click Insert, choose Multiple Driver folder and browse to folder where you extracted SATA drivers (eg. c:\SATADRV). Click ALL and OK.

    9. Now select Textmode driver and select all drivers (hold CTRL and click each or shift-click first and last). You don't need all of them, but it's a small set and you have space on cd, so why complicate...

    10. Click Next and Yes to start the proces. When finished, click Next again.

    11. Now you can choose to create an ISO image (to burn with your burning software) or to burn directly (I used ISO first, burned with Nero).

    12. Click Next and Finish. Insert CD and restart computer to boot from CD and install XP.
Of course now you don't have to change to Sata Compatibility mode in bios. XP now has the drivers for SATA.

Hope this guide helps a bit. These are only basic instructions for sata drivers integration. SATA drivers need to be installed as Textmode drivers as you've seen before. These are the drivers that get loaded in text mode part of XP installation. Now you can play a bit yourself and try to make a full V1S slipstreamed XP installation with all the drivers. Of course you can do unattended install and much more with Nlite. But this is not the subject here.

    Greetz,
    miso

Does anyone know somewhere else I can get the RealTek HD Audio driver for XP as the ftp link posted on page 1 is woefully slow and keeps stopping.

It's gonna take about a week to get it.

    Thanks

Thanks for all the Info Matt and Miso, If any of you guys dont want to hassle with the slipstream install, Grab yourself a USB floopy. You can F6 install with a usb floopy and this Laptop. Be sure and grab the floopy install files that Miso linked to above. I have one install cd and never had any luck with slipstreaming so that worked for me.

    Thanks miso for your info.

So far I have slipstreamed my copy of XP Pro with SP2, SATA drivers and completed the unattended install settings. I have just got to burn the ISO and test the disk.

Eventually i want to include in the slipstream all the drivers for the V1S and figure out the components, setting and options bits that nlite has available so I can use the disk as an XP unattended recovery disk for my V1S.

Thanks guys especially Matt and Miso, without your help I wouldn't have got thus far.

Hi, I have installed my slipstreamed version of XP Pro. I have installed lots of drivers but still have some to install.

Here is the list with question marks listed in device manager:

    PCI Device
    PCI Memory Controller
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
    USB 2.0
Unknown Device (under Hardware Ids it lists: ACPI\FX0102 & IFX0102)

Also My Quick Keys (Bluetooth, Wifi etc buttons) are not working

The Leds on the bottom left of the machine are not working properly, i.e my wifi is conected but there is no wifi led illuminated.

If someone can let me know what drivers are needed and if they are on the cd.

I am trying to build a list of the required drivers to get all the hardware I am using to work without installing anything i'm not ready to create a new slipstreamed disk with the drivers included.

    Thanks guys.

OK, i'm still having driver issues that I really hope some of you good people can help me with.

Firstly I have no audio, I have tried installing the Realtek HD Audio drivers several times but still no audio.

Every time XP boots I am prompted to install drivers for "Intel(R) Management Engine Interface"

    My WiFi hotkey isn't working.

    My Fingerprint Reader Isn't Working

Device Manager shows Driver Problems with the following:

    PCI Memory Controller
    PCI Device
    PCI Simple Communications Controller

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

@matt_h1 - thx for the guide. i just gave up on vista and i dont know where i would be with out your guide. i am still having a couple of issues though that you seemed to have figured out.

First is that i cant get my wireless button to work. Please point me in the direction of the intel drivers you used to get the button working. I thought i had installed all the drivers you mentioned on page 1.

Second is that my Power 4 Gear seems to be working but the icons/program that popup dont look like the ones i had on vista. these ones are a lot older looking not as slick. Any idea how to get the newer ones? WHen using the Fn buttons it seems to be using the newer version.

Lastly, any luck getting the splendid video to work. As you found i installed the drivers but it doesnt run. Do you know if splendid video is simply different presets for the graphics card that you could do yourself and if so do you know what they are :) Or does it have another hardware specific function?

    thanks

Hi s.newave, is your audio working? I has installed xp, tried everything I can and re-installed xp to try to solve my no audio issues.

Can you tell me what drivers in what order you installed them in.

    Thanks.

When I installed xp, I usually do it in this order. Chipset drivers, Video Drivers then windows update the install. Then I go through the audio - ir - bluetooh ect.. Any of the versions of the audio drivers that are listed in this thread have worked fine for me. I have just two items that are not recognized by xp and I believe they are related to the turbo cache that only works in vista.

oh i can help you on that one...the unknown device pci device is to do with microsofts uaa bus driver for high audi definition...u need to install a hotfix dedicated for it...if you want i can send it to you well...i have three that i have put in one folder so i would have to send u all three cos i cant remeber which hotfix it is specifically (i think there are all somwhat related but one in particular does the job and the others wont harm ur pc)...then once u have run the hotfix u will need to go to device manager and where it has the exclamation mark next to the pci device then right click...update driver...then click yes and this time only and let it install the software automically and your good to go..

Oh jus to remind u do this part after ur realtek is installed

its not ur realtek that is the problem its jus windows being gay...which reminds me if you have the latest realtek audio drivers then u shuoldnt need the hotfix because it should have run it automatically all you will have to do is the second part i was saying (device manager update driver etc...)

and reboot and ur realtek will come in the corner :)
let me know if it works

I am re-installing windows again so fingers crossed.

Before this re-install kb888111 made no difference, if I do not get audio this time then i'm gonna have to go back to vista.

I wonder if someone who has successfully installed XP could list in order the drivers to install.

If possible could the list contain Driver Name, What the Driver is for, Where to install from (Asus Driver CD, internet download etc), The Exact name of the folder and the file to use if on the CD to ensure the right driver is installed, in case of drivers to download please indicate whether to use matts links on the first page of this thread or please provide a link to the correct driver, at what point to restart, if windows update is required during or after installation and any hotfixes required during the process.

Most importantly the exact order of installation.

Trust me I know it is a lot of work but I think it will be of benefit not only to me but to many others.

Thanks everyone espically if you can help.

I have re-installed XP, installed the drivers as best I can, installed the KB888111 hotfix, updated windows and still no audio so I guess i'm stuck with vista.

Worth a try. Shame best XP run lovely on my V1s otherwise.

have you tried what i said with regards to right clicking the property of it and then saying for it to select automatically what to install after running the hotfix..jus double clicking the hotfix wont fix it..u need to apply it after (go to device manager and do what i said)..do this after u installed the realtek...

(ps the hotfix should say that it is for high audio definition and im about 99% sure that u haven't got the microst uaa thats why it isnt working)...you need to check under device manager - system devices and make sure that microsoft UAA bus driver for high defintion audio is there and if it isnt and pci device is..then u need to do what i said!

After discovering that I had about 50% better battery life in xp than vista (Ca 3:30 vs 2:15), I decided to use XP as primary OS for now.

Most of the setup is now working fine, but I have a big problem with the Bluetooth-stack. It works fine with only one device connected, but when I connect both my Wacom board and my cell phone at the same time, I get about a second of delay. It's not that much of a problem with my phone, but the wacom board is rendered pretty useless.

    Any tips?

I want to thank everyone here at nbr forums for all their help.

I have managed with help to create my own clean install of windows xp pro with the sata drivers and hotfixes that enable the sound card slipstreamed.

I tested the disk and my sound card installed as soon as I installed the realtek drivers so i'm glad to have the hotfixes slpstreamed as I don't have to worry about losing them or forgetting this step in the future.

I have only got 3 exclamation marks in Device Manager and I believe 2 of them are to do with the Turbo Memory chip which will not work with XP and the other is the fingerprint reader just because I haven't installed it yet.

    Here the 3 are:
    FingerPrint Sensor
    PCI Memory Controller
    Intel(R) Management Engine Interface

If anyone would care to double check their device manager to confirm then that would be cool but i'm pretty certain that the bottom 2 are turbomem.

I would like to ask, does anyone have a link to the Intel WiFi driver that I think matt refered to to get my WiFi hotkey working?

Once again a massive thanks to matt, sunny and everyone else for their help

hey matt. I was thinking of going back to XP and I have the problem of the XP setup not recognizing the SATA hard drive...and I heard you mentioning about change the SATA mode to compatible mode. how exactly do I do that? in bios correct? but I don't remember seeing anything like that in my bios menu, can you provide me a step by step guide please

and secondly, if I change the mode to compatible, what benefit do I lose? or possibly what's the difference in terms of performance...and do I still have to slipstream driver using nLite? or must I install SATA driver after I installed XP?

Hi, i find this guide very interesting.

I have an Asus V1S from 3 days, and I made the downgrade to XP. For the first 2 days, I haven't had problems, but now, the wireless seams not to work properly.
In fact the first 2 days, immediately when I turned on my notebook it found a wireless connection, so i could explore internet without problems. Clicking on the wi-fi icon in the bar status, I could see all the avilable wifi connection, but now.....now, not only I don't visualize any connection (one of my friend with another notebook, can visualize 5 wifi connection), but it seems to work only when it decides....so i can't connect, while other people in the range of 1mt from my position can navigate without problem by the wireless.

I tried do disinstall the wireless adapter, but when i restarted xp, it has already been installed, with the drivers suggested in this guide....
according to you it may be my wireless link that doesn't work properly?

Unfirtunately after slipstreaming the hotfixes into my xp install disc I then deleted them.

I originally got them from Sunjoon who posted about the issue on the previous page of this thread.

He is a very helpfull guy and i'm sure he send them to you, I suggest you pm him. After you get the hotfixes if could pm me to forward them to me and i'll host them somewhere and post a link for orhers.

I solved this problem! Upgrade your bios to version 300 and after a reboot Windows will detect a new VGA device. Download the drivers from laptop2go, replace the .INF with the modified .INF and it works.

The bios upgrade gave me some problems since EZFLASH gave me a "Bios contents not found" or something.. I redownloaded the bios from asus from a (MUCH SLOWER -> 2 kb/s) mirror and this seemed to resolve this issue.

    Just for the records:
    - Download the new bios for the V1S from ASUS
    - Copy it to a USB disk (format it with FAT, not fat32 or NTFS)
    - Reboot and press F4
    - Access A: (this is your usb disk emulated)
    - Select the biosfile, if you receive an error, redownload it from another mirror (i used the europe mirror with great speed but it somehow messed up the bios rom).
    - Reboot, install VGA drivers using the modified .INF

Please see the ASUS Support - Download Section. In 22 of January they updated and added a lot of XP drivers. Can you make a new tutorial with the ordinated list like the 1st to install and so on? And please can you say if there are all the drivers there?

    Thanks a lot!

For a generic order to install XP drivers (well, any Windows drivers) see my XP guide. Generally you start with chipset, ACPI, move on to GPU, sound, LAN, WLAN, and then the rest of the bunch.

Does the USB Root hub appear in yellow in device manager? If so try manually installing drivers for it (let Windows look on the internet or wherever it wants). If it's listed as working OK, uninstall it first then reinstall.

Or you can always roll back to the point before you installed the chipset drivers, and skip their installation. I'm not sure what functionality you lose that way, though.

    Thanks for your help.

USB 2.0 was the webcam (weird, i installed it earlier). Unknown is still unknown (lol) and PCI its not the modem, it was the 4th thing I installed, and now I re-installed, but it keeps there :\

    I think i didn't missed any driver..

About that large number of monitors, do you have any idea?

    Thanks a lot mate :)
