Planning to get a Z63a, but don't know which HD company to get. Obviously, need a 8mb, 5400rpm, looking at 60Gb or 80Gb.

Western Digital, Samsung and Fujitsu basically are with in a few dollars of each other. Which one to get, based on weight, power and seek times?

    Thanks

None of the above? All of those drives are questionable. I'd put hitachi and seagate to the top of that list....

No complaints on hitachi or seagte. Had rma on all of the drive manufacturers here except fujitsu. Been using fuji 2.5" drives for the past year. They account for about 30-40% of all drives we shipped. So far had zero rma. Worst drives are Toshiba. If i am wrong then perhaps we just got bad toshiba drives for a perion of 4 months last year becuase too many of them were rma after about half a year. Fuji was the first to offer 3 year warranty on their 2.5" drives some years ago. They were the first to come out with sata drives. Their problem is they are not carried by every disti. Seagate is nice becuase they back up their drives with a 5 year warranty. Ofcourse its useless. Who will keep their custom hi end notebook for 5 years? Been using the seagate 100gb drives. They get just as toasty as all the rest. WD is a new player to the 2.5" hd market so is samsung. Fuji and hitachi have been around. Toshiba may be one of the oldest but one of the worst. Very slow rma proccess. Takes months for them to reshib bad drives. In the last half year we replaced about 50 toshiba drives many of which were not even our notebooks. ALot of carry ins. Dell loves to use toshiba drives. I dont know why.

I've got a fujitsu mhv2060ah (60GB, 5400rpm) in my z63a. I chose it because I've had good luck with another fujitsu hd (mht2040ah) in my Asus desknote, which is now 2 yrs old. I couldn't find reviews on the mhv since it's relatively new, but they made slight improvements in noise output, shock absorption and power consumption, which i hoped would translate to a cooler running hd. I've had mine for almost 2 months now, and I'm very pleased.. it runs quiet and hd temps are 40-42C most of the time, with a max temp of 49.

I'm running a Seagate momentus 5400 on my z63a, have no complaints at all. It has amazing battery life (4:30) and the heat is negligable, plus the 5 year warranty is well worth the extra cost.
