I've recently purchased an ASus V1S that has an HDMI output. Given it's close relation to the G1S, which is advertised as being HDCP compliant, I was hoping that the same would be true for the V1S.

However, I haven't been able to find any documentation, links etc to confirm that the HDMI output on this notebook is HDCP capable. Can anyone shed any more information on this?

    Thanks in advance

I am going out on a limb here, but isnt all HDMI HDCP compliant? the hmdi port I thought was designed to for the DRM, therefore if it has it, it should be HDCP

Unfortunately this isn't always the case. For example, the first ATI cards that featured a HDMI port were not HDCP compliant. From what I understand it requires a seperate security chip that is an additional cost.

The v1jp is HDCP according to the ATI x1700 spec page

Interesting...so far it looks like the G1S and V1JP are HDCP compliant.

My concern with the V1S is that I've not seen any documentation from Asus and no vendors list HDCP in the specs like they do for say the G1S.

I think it's assumed. Almost everything is HDCP now. dmak is right about DRM, one of the things Vista was pushing for initially was requiring HDCP for HD content (to close the analog backdoor), so virtually all new cards have support for it.

As far as GeForce 8600M GT, the chipset clearly has support:

The best way to find out would be to plug it into a HDTV...

    AlexF,

That's a test I'd love to run but unfortunately I don't currently have a HD TV or HD source content (Bu-Ray/HD-DVD) to test this. However, I'm hoping someone on these forums might.
