Hello guys. Recently i've bought this caddy (SATA to PATA):

DBPOWER Caddy - Disco duro SATA a IDE/PATA para ordenador (12,7 mm): Amazon.es: Electrónica

and i've placed my SATA HDD Seagate Momentus 250GB in the optical drive. I replaced the Seagate for a nice Crucial SSD 240GB as main HDD. Windows 8.1 and BIOS detect well new caddy, but speeds are not good. Also, i've experimented some freezes when simply i scroll files in a folder... CrystaldiskMark says Write Speed is about 65Mb/s and write speed is about 15Mb/s. If i put the Seagate in external USB enclosure, i have better write speed (about 17 Mb/s ). I guess the Seagate in the caddy runs in UltraDMA Mode 2.... I don't know if there is possible to improve or change the speed of the HDD in the caddy.
My laptop is an Asus X53SG-AP099C (Core2Duo T8100, 3GB RAM).

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards

PATA is plagued with slow speeds, and UDMA 2 will typically get you up to 33.3 MB/s write speed. The limitation is up to the system port/controller, unfortunately.

Thanks mate. However I'm wondering if there is some sort of adjustment to change Udma mode from 2 to 5

No simple adjustment I'm afraid. I believe those standards are different electronically.

You will need to look for an unlocked bios or see if you can change the UDMA mode in windows (device manager in windows and look at the properties of the drive or the controller) but it has been over a decade since I went to SATA with the nf7-s and an Atholl xp thunderbird 1.4ghz lol.
