Ok i have the Asus G50Vt-X5. and i have of course the 320GB 7,200 RPM for it. In one thread i read they said you should change the HDD option in the BIOS to RAID 0 for better performance under vista i'm keeping vista for the sole reason i want to have my little features that Asus has given me. My question is... Is it a good idea to change the HDD option from the BIOS to RAID 0 for the optiminal performance in Windows Vista?

you will need a second hdd the version you got only has one hdd but it can hold two if you get a hdd bracket, but it's not a good idea to put your hdd in raid 0 because if you loss/fail one hdd you'll mess up all your data

RAID0 will always provide better performance over non-RAID configurations. The only disadvantage is that if one drive fails, both will render useless.

when you get another you don't have to put it into RAID it's just an option, if you don't it'll act like another HDD which means more space

In laptops, the raid controller is software based. Do not expect a 100% increase in performance from the second drive, because it is not going to happen. At best you may get a 10% increase in harddrive performance from a Raid 0 configuration.
Please note that if you want RAID 0, you will need to buy a drive which matches the one you have.
So if you have a 7K320 in it now. You need to buy another 320gb 7K320 and than you can install your operating system with a RAID configuration.
After both drives are installed you will have to enable "SATA RAID" in the bios. Than you will need to go into the RAID Manager and select Raid 0. Than you create an array and so forth.

Actually, the G50's raid controller isn't software based.
Check thebeephaha's post for his RAID0 setup as it shows about a 100% increase in HDD speeds compared to a single 320GB 7200rpm drive:

The default setting is not raid enabled. Like Ktron said, you'll have to enable it in your bios if you want raid0 or raid1
