Hi guys, I'm going to get an hdtv, and wanted to connect my laptop upto it. I have the f3sv, which has the dvi-d port. I know I'll need the hdmi to dvi-d cable to get HD/SD video over, but I just wanted to know if the F3Sv is capable of sending audio over the same cable to. I've read that some laptops are capable of it.

If not, can someone point me to the cabling I'll require to transfer audio over to the tv.

    Thanks

So your future TV will only have a HDMI port?

I think you're going to have to hook up audio separately with the 3.5mm headphone jack, and video from DVI to HDMI or VGA.

Well it will have HDMI, Component, VGA etc, but my laptop only has VGA and DVI, and I read that DVI is a better connection to use for video.

Does anyone know if the f3sv is capable of transferring audio over DVI-d? Also would I just require a digital coaxial cable with a 3.5mm adapter to plug into my headphone/s-pdif port?

Your laptop will not send audio over the DVI-D plug as the standard was never made for it.

If you want digital audio (Dolby etc) and your TV / HiFi can handle optical input then you need a 3.5mm optical to SPDIF cable, if you only have an analogue input on the TV or Hi-Fi then a 3.5mm > whateverisonthebackoftheTV cable will be needed.
