    hi,

once i plug in my HDMI cable into my my samsung PN50B650 plasma tv, the tv isnt able to find the HDMI source. ive tried as well on a sony 40" LCD and my asus VH236H monitor. it cannot be the external display's problem. the HDMI cable works 100% with my xbox 360, so it cannot be the 360. so...it can only be someth. wrong with my laptop.

the drivers are 186.82...no OC, no UV. when i plug the HDMI cable in all my ports, im able to press FN+F8 to switch between the LCD/HDMI/LCD+HDMI, but my monitors still dont recognize the HDMI source. what could be the problem? nvidia panels recognizes the monitor as "samsung" and i can change everything in it, but still it wont show anything in my sources list...help? thx

Your HDMI cable - just because it works for one thing, it doesn't mean it will work for others. If you bought the $3 HDMI cables from Eforcity or whatever, they are hit or miss.

    Your TV

    Your Computer

Find another cable, and you'll be able to find your problem.

Hope a new cable works for you.

Speaking of HDMI and these laptops, do you guys find that games run a tad slow FPS wise? I'm using the DOX drivers and games seem a bit slower on my 24" Benq monitor. I think my previous drivers seemed about even in performance, not sure...

lol...but why does xbox work then? isn't a digital cable hit or miss? if it travels through, it should work...if the signal is traveling from xbox to tv, the signal is passing thru the cable. but not when i use a laptop it doesnt? care to elaborate?

I think the 186.82's are the culprit. On my G60, I tried hooking it up to the tv the other night via HDMI, and I had the same issue as you. I uninstalled the 182.62's and installed the 195.55's.

Now it works like it should. Give that a shot.

I hope at this point you've concluded the problem is your crappy HDMI cable.

i fail to see how the cable is crappy? all hdmi cables are the same (maybe the shielding improves with more expensive ones..)...from what ive read ALL OVER the internet. mine is the 1.3b btw, i have ordered another cable that will come this week anyway, see if its the cable or not...

and dont try to recomend me some monster cables if that is were ur going by stating "crappy"...

lol, any reasoning though behind it working for a console but not a pc? is there something different in pc vs xbox?

sidenote: whenever i use HDMI, i always have to go into realtek sound manager to set HDMI as default device, then when im just using my computer normally, i have to set it to speakers as default. is there a way so that whenever i plug in HDMI, it will automatically switch to HDMI sound?

The Xbox may able to output using an earlier version of the HDMI standard while your Laptop may not. There could also be other factors I'm not thinking of.

so you saying that xbox mite be outputting something like 1.2, while my laptop is outputting 1.3b, and my cable is not 1.3b? false advertising by eforcity? lol

Yes, or even that the HDMI cables you were using were not made to proper spec, and different outputting signals tolerate the improper specification differently... aka your Xbox had higher tolerance than your laptop.

guess i now know to test my HDMI cables with MORE THAN 1 device when they come :(

No, I have an HDMI to DVI converter cable that I use for my computer (which I needed because I had a Macbook that would only output DVI and my TV only took HDMI - now the computer is reversed, where the Laptop only outputs HDMI)... it was expensive ($30 or so) from Best Buy. I don't remember the brand though.

lol just an update...i emailed eforcity wondering what their return policy was, i told them that "the first cable wasn't functioning on my PC while it worked on my 360, and the 2nd cable worked on both", i didnt really ask for a new one tho.

they responded back to me, their first response was automatically sending me a new 6FT HDMI at no cost :)

pretty good customer service, by eforcity! 2HDMI cables for the price of one (albeit one doesnt work for my PC and idk IF the replacement will...).
