    Hello All,

I own an ASUS u56e-bal7 and I tried connecting to my tv through an HDMI connection. I right clicked on the desktop to to adjust my monitor so that I can create a connection between my lap top and my TV. Well this process turned out to be a bigger pain in the butt then then i thought it would.

Now the problem has become that I have black screen. its in a different mode because I can see my cursor on the screen and when i move my cursor to the right edge of the screen it goes off screen.

What im trying to do is find a shortcut or a method to get my lap top back to the windows screen.

Any other information needed to help please ask and I appreciate any input.

You should be able to unplug any external monitors and reboot, it should recognize its the only screen connected and use the built in screen.

When you right click on the now black desktop does it not give you any options, you can also select the notebook screen and set it as the main display.

UPDATE: now its showing my background but not desktop icons.

This also might help, I think I accidentally set my computer as the second unit not the primary unit. I dont know how to explain it in tech terms but in laymans terms instead of my lap top sending signals to my tv i think my laptop is the set as the receiving unit. Hope that makes sense.

    I cannot right click.

So no external monitor hooked up, and you can not right click? That is odd.
Try turning off the computer, push the power button and right away continually press F8 then start in safe mode. You can then check your monitor settings to see if you need to disable any it thinks are still connected.

It sounds as though you set it up to extend your desktop, and only the secondary display is showing. You need to rearrange the display priority in the same configurations window that allows you to set up dual monitors and the resolution.

If you can get into win 7 or 8 try Win Key + P then use the right arrow key to toggle through the display modes

Don't forget you can get windows to slide from screen to screen by holding the windows key and using the arrow keys.
