    Hey,

I am in a desperate situation; my Asus z96j will not turn on. I was using it on battery then I turned it off. I went to turn it back on 20 minutes later and nothing happened. I tried plugging it in, and not only did nothing happen, but the red battery charging light did not go on. I purchased this laptop in August from Milestone PC in Canada. It has worked well since my purchase date, and I believe it is still under warrenty. However, I have not backed my HD up in 2/3 weeks and need the information on it for the weekend. I assume that I can contact milestone PC and send it to them; however, this is my only computer, and I live on the other side of the country. Also, by the time I get home, it would be able to leave my home untill Friday.

I have no idea what is wrong, and I need the information on the HD (papers; lecture notes; reading notes; ASAP. It has not worked for 2 hours and I am well behind where I need to be work-wise for the day.

Anybody you know have a 2.5" external drive enclosure? You could then pull the HD out and download the data before sending it in if Milestone thinks that's what is needed.

PS is the power supply look like it's getting power when you plug it into the wall (i.e. LED lighting up)? Double-checked all connections to be sure something in the path didn't get loose?

    Try these:

    1. Press the 'reset button' - it's very small, sort of underneath the touchpad/microphone input on the underside of the machine. You'll need some kind of blunt point, such as a thin paperclip end.

    2. Unplug it and take the battery out and leave it for a couple of hours.

This happened to me a lot, there are many posts about it here. Search and ye shall find :)

    Hope that helps,
    Cat

    Hey,
I have been in class all day (taking notes the old school way is so inefficient now!) I can't seem to locate this reset button, is it on the underside? There is a small hole with two arrows and a circle, is this it? If it means anything, I double checked the power cord and, the last time I used it was on battery, now, the red charging light will not come on.

Try taking out the RAM, and see if it boots (leave 1 module in if you have 2, then try with none...it should beep in that case). Does it even make a noise or the green light comes on at all? Also try with the HDD out, and maybe the Wifi card if you have one... changing the RAM around fixes this a lot, make sure the battery+power is disconnected for this.

This sounds a lot like what happened to the other guy in that post I linked to above. Make sure you read that over, and I'd send him a message since maybe he fixed it in the week since then. But ya...it sounds like an RMA may be the thing you need to do if it's still broken after all this...
