    Hi all-

I just updated the bios on my recently purchased N53SN laptop from 206 to 208 using the bios update utility built into the bios and all seemed to go ok. It showed the status bar erase the old, flash the new, then it said "shutting down in 2 seconds".

well after it shut down it won't turn on! i took the battery out for a few minutes, held down the power button, etc and nothing :(

is there a secret cmos reset somewhere or maybe an internal battery i could remove to wake this baby up?

    any help i GREATLY appreciated.

Did you update the BIOS using an image stored on the internal NTFS hard disk? If so this is known to brick ASUS laptops with easy flash. It's covered under warranty, so you should set up an RMA.

They may try to skirt responsibility, depending on the rep you talk to, so don't mention that it was a bad BIOS flash if you take my advice. Just say the system won't power on and leave it at that.

There is a CMOS battery somewhere in your laptop but it may require a significant amount of disassembly to get to, and it may not change your outcome.

Yes I did. How many people use non-NTFS drives in their systems nowadays? Pretty rediculous if you ask me. Easyflash is what they used built-in now?

Is it worth it to try to get to the battery? If I get to it, what do I do?

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Next time flash using a FAT formatted USB stick with the image on it.

Anyway, sorry about the bad luck, but resetting your CMOS (by disconnecting/removing the battery for 10+ seconds) is a shot in the dark and probably won't do you any good since it's probably a bad flash. If you are out of warranty it's worth a shot, otherwise set up an RMA and save yourself the hassle.
