Hi, i don't know if anyone here has any extra suggestions...here's my story:
I have an Asus N61JV, i had issues with the Optimus not switching and decided to get the new bios from Asus.
I used the auto-detection...downloaded the bios: N61Jvas224![]()
![]()
Used the EZFlash utility from the bios..which it successfully updated.![]()
NOW, i have NO p.o.s.t...nothing appears on-screen!![]()
I have just contacted Asus tech-support, but i'm out of warranty...recommendations????? It is obviously their fault..not sure what to do!

Did you put the update on your internal hard disk instead of a FAT formatted usb stick?
First try removing the battery and AC adapter for 30 seconds and then see if it will POST.
You can try removing the hard drive(s) and see if it will POST.
Otherwise you can try getting to the CMOS battery and remove it for a few seconds. This may require a bunch of disassembly.
If none of that works, there are BIOS recovery services, ASUS can do it for you but it may not be the cheapest option. -

Now i'm EXTRA confused...i just did the first part of your instructions: removed the ac adaptor and battery, waited for 30 seconds..plugged the battery and a/c back in.
*Now i don't even have my power light turning on...nor fan..UH OHHH!..this is not lookin good!
Shall i proceed with the hard drive and/or cmos battery removal...or give up now and send it to Asus??
I'm definitely down to remove the cmos battery...do u think this will reset the rom to the older/original working bios?? -

It won't reset the ROM. Just clear the CMOS. There were a few reports that removing hard drives got machines to POST after a "bad flash".
Removing the battery and AC adapter for 30 seconds resets the embedded controller. Sometimes that can work. Try the hard drives first. That is quite easy.
The disassembly guide is here: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Again can you confirm if you flashed using the internal hard disk or from a FAT formatted USB stick? -

thanks again for the valuable info!
sorry, yeah..i used my hdd for the flash..
i'm gonna grab my phillips and take the hdd out first...do i try to power on with the hdd still out? -

Gah. That's an easy mistake to avoid.
Too late now.
Yes try booting without the hard drives plugged in.
The CMOS battery is on P.19
It requires a lot of disassembly so it may not really be worth it depending on if you have ever done this type of thing before.
You have to take the full "top case module" apart.
Basically to do that follow p.7 to 14. With the battery & ac adapter out of course.
I looked but didn't spot the bios chip yet. That would be of interest if you had access to a flasher yourself. -

Ah huh! -well i hadn't updated a bios since 02...figured the in-bios would work!! -BAD assumption i guess..
NICE .pdf!!
I have done things of this nature, thanks for the QUICK advice.
i apparently don't have a proper screwdriver..ughh..off to the store...lol!
Will let ya know if the hdd or cmos battery removal works. Thanks again! -

Yeah I just stickied the BIOS update guide, I'm really getting too tired of using the
emoticon with BIOS update threads.
The safest way to update the bios is to use a freshly FAT-formatted USB stick and put the BIOS image on there. That doesn't help you now I realize.
Good luck! If you end up needing a BIOS recovery service, you can look for a local asus center if you are near one: ASUS Notebook Authorized Service Provider
They should be able to give you an estimate on the cost of a BIOS reflash. Make sure they understand it's not a dead mobo but a bad bios flash, it will be a huge difference in price.
There are 3rd party services but I don't know how good they are.
You can always get a flasher yourself and redo the BIOS, but I cannot locate the chip on the PDF and also you would need a full backup BIOS image, which is a bit of a chicken and egg situation. -

;a look of shock and suprise;
Well, i'm gonna have to give Asus a big thumbs up here (even though they shouldn't allow me to 'break' my laptop via their flash utility!!) -they got back to me pretty quickly, and have agreed to pay for the service even though it is outside warranty. -of course, i "get to" pay to ship it to them.
Final note: tried the hard drive removal, didn't help...after looking at the number of screws and how i would have had to disassemble the laptop to its almost bare-bones to access that cmos batt...i'm HAPPY to skip the process and take the spare time to go skipping through the forest!
again Mr. AllurGroceries -you are a scholar and a gentleman! -haha, not to mention an excellent individual and superb kicker of cyber computer issues!! Thanks and blessings!
