Ok guys im about to purchase a new u1f i know the first series mainly conisit of

Older version of the Asus U1F

    Intel Core Duo U2400 1.06Ghz 2MB L2 cache
    Embedded Intel 945GM VGA
    1.5G DDR2 667 MHz (OB 512MB + 1G)
    80GB HDD (4200)
    External DVD Writer

    ------------

Newer Version of the Asus U1F

    Intel Core2 Duo U7500 1.06Ghz 2MB L2 cache
Intel Ex Graphics Tech 2 128MB (shared)
    100+G TPM HDD
    1.5G DDR2 667 MHz (OB 512MB + 1G)

    ------------

What I dont get is the TPM Hdd? anyone ever heard of it??
and i did some research on the Intel Ex Graphics Tech 2 chip and what I found out is that on notebookcheck.net www://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Extreme-Graphics-2.2179.0.html The Intel Ex Graphics Tech 2 card is like a really out dated version, they were used all the way back to the pentium 4 days!!! What i dont get is why on earth would they want to upgrade every part of the laptop and downgrade the graphics chip for the newer model????? is it a misprint? i dunno, please help!!!!

    The U1e?

DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM, 1GB on board, 1 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 2GB SDRAM
    Embedded IntelĀ® GMA X3100

It should have 1gb with 1 slot open. But where are you getting this info from?

The U1F-A1 uses the 945GM chipset, so has a the GMA 950 graphics processor. TPM HDD just means you can use the onboard TPM chip to encrypt the data on your HDD.

    TPM = Trusted Platform Module

As Eugenes stated, it's a security feature. You can find it in many business notebooks.

I'd rethink the U1 series. I had one and returned it because the right shift key is in the wrong place. They put it on the other side of the up arrow key and as a touch typist I never got used to it and wondered why would anyone place the shift key there!

That's strange indeed :) But I'm sure that's nothing that the brain can't handle given a little exercise (say, a week or so).

My daughter has had hers for 6 months now and has adapted nicely.
I use it about once a week for 3 hours and - while frustrating at first - I have adjusted.
The other positives of the LT are just too great to set aside because of the shift key.

It shouldn't take 6 weeks to adapt, at most a few days.
