    EDIT: I fixed it!

I basically ran home when the computer went down and ive been messing with it for about an hour. First i tried to remove the harddrive but then realized that i dont have any cable to hook it up via usb or even to my home pc's mobo.

Next i ran some diagnostics to no avail, and then i scrambled around for my old vista retail disc, i got it back in march and it was heavily scratched, but it worked

Why? How? well, i knew it had to do with the boot manager, ive gone through this before when i dual booted by having vista installed before xp, once i installed xp, the vista boot manager went missing/corrupt. So all i did is let it repair vista, it took about three reboot and BOOM! VISTA IS BACK! NO DATA LOST!

to think, if i didnt have that retail disc and did what asus and other manufacturers would like, it would have been 5+ hours of reformatting and installing everything with out a trace of my old data.

i have no choice but to do this from my ppc phone but

my f8sv is reset looping! it all started when i let someone cut it on and they did know how to log on bcos the fingerprint reader, they gave it back to me to ct it off but the thing was froze, so i did a reset by holding the power button, since then its been looping

now i have a few questions, so please help asus community!

    1. it seems like this is an OS problem and not a f8 problem, i can get into asus recovery menu, but vista is not a start up option, i think my boot manager has gone corrupt.

is there any way i can use a none recovery disc to force fix the boot manager for vista?

    2. if i cant recover the os, is it possible to take the data off the drive like an external drive?

im not sure about how secure asus protect is and im wondering if i can pull data off without a hassel. i really hate losing data, i can careless less for vista, and this will probably be the thing that make me go back to xp

    3. Does any one haveany thoughts on what i can do?

once again, all i get is a reshowing asus logo or recover (windows setup) after hitting f8. i really dont want to lose all my data, i just got confortable and thought my new audio sessions were safe and i sooooo dont want to lose them!
