I have to choose, and I'm split 50/50. I'm looking for a laptop for college, and have narrowed it down to these two. I have been using a five year old desktop, and have never seen a wide or glossy screen, so I know either of these machines will blow me away. The only game I will play will be hl2 maybe a few hours a week. The majority of the time I will just be surfing, using word, and listening to music. I know few have experience with the w3j, but I was hoping people with a W3V could input here too.
Basically, build quality is very important to me. Which has the better screen? Which notebook is more durable? I would like to know what long-run problems I might encounter with these machines. I have heard of junk getting in the speaker holes in the V6V, and I have heard the plastic on the interior is a letdown from the lid on the W3V. Can you really tell carbon fiber is used in V6Va? I am also worried that any gains in battery life the W3V had on the V6VA are lost due to the faster components in the W3J.
Thanks

OK two big differences is the W3j is new tech core duo with X1600 GPU. the V6Va is old tech still fast and plenty for a few years no prob. There is a V6j the new version. ill try to make this easy for you. Build quality The V6va and V6j are far better than the w3 series no comparison. Now the W3 series isnt build bad but the V series has a thinkpad tough feel to it. The W3 palmrest will wear off and the color will fade. But the top of it is metal so thats tough. The V series is more solid feel more solid keyboard. The lid is mostly plastic alittle carbon fiber But very solid. The metal palmrest on it is very inportant it will never fade. Overall just feels like a better machine. Battery life is pretty close on all the machines about 3-4 hours. Now W3j faster than the v6va about as fast as the v1j but the w3j has a faster video card then all of them. the V series also has better speakers much better than the w3 series. Now if overall speed isnt the most important to you then i would say go for the v6va because It has the IPS screen which is so much better than pretty much any screen out short of other IPS screens. Much better viewing angles. And vivid colors. If i gaming isnt important i would say get the V1J the V6Va will be alittle better for gaming than the V1J but has a nicer LCD. To me the Monitor on the w3 series is really only SOSO to narrow of a viewing angle for a main machine. But that just me most people are happy with it. Nothing will get in the speaker holes in the v series. But based on Build alone the V series is the way to go. I know that was confusing if you have another question ill answer in a more organized way next time lol.

Just make sure there are still V6va's left.
As for the build of the V6va, I am very impressed, the brushed aluminum wristrest and whole body around the keyboard, which eliminates the infamouse ''wrist-fading'' on most plastic laptops(the sides and bottom are CF-composite), and the lid is magnesium composite, IIRC. -
Thanks for the responses, but I have some other questions. Do all V6Va's have IPS screens? I don't know much about LCDs, so will running hl2 in a resolution other than the native one of the screen look poor? Will the V6Va run hl2 in it's native resolution? I found some benchmarks: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NzQ2LDUsLGhlbnRodXNpYXN0
Do you think turning off AA and AF will allow it to? (I have never used either of these with my geForce 256) -
All north american v6va have the IPS screen. Running a game will still look great even when not at native rez. The x700 in it is equal to a geforce 6600 go the x700 is alittle faster actually. But i havent Played halo 2. But i can play quake 4 on my w2v pretty well and that has an x700. so i dont think that will be much of an issue.
HELP! W3J or V6Va?
