I was browsing youtube and suddenly my computer blue screened on me. i tried rebooting windows but when i rebooted it said "cannot boot windows" and returns me to the previous screen.

So i decided to reformat my computer. I inserted the ASUS recovery cd and halfway through the installation, the windows installer says "cannot complete installation of windows, restart installation" so i did. when i restarted the installation it took me to the same error....i did this 3 times using 1 or 2 partitions and also that third installation option. lo and behold my piece of s$%& laptop that has cause me so much woe in the past few months is now dead and i feel like strangling ASUS. i feel like i get shafted with every possible complication i can possibly get from buying a laptop.....2 month wait.....broken battery....broken audio......led's that tell me th wrong info....now its completely crashed....thanks...a lot....

i have an ASUS v1s-b1...i used to be a proud owner but now im just pissed off.....

What system are you using ? vista ?
It seems that your hard disk has problems...
Boot your computer by an xp cd ,and make a full disk format ...then ,it will be well.

You need not to update bios if you install XP,and need not set sata values ,it is supported defaultly.
Why not boot your computer by an xp cd ,and make a full disk format or only format the C: partition.

You can only format C:\ without destroying other partitions.

Yes, but he tried 1 & 2 partitions set up.

Magicrice, you shouldn't have been so hasty with formatting the HDD... posting here would have given you solutions on how to recover your data before reformatting...

For the future ,you are suggested put your private data in an appropriative partition ,and only install your system in C:\ ,so even your system crashs ,you can simply format it ,and reinstall a new one .
A fall in pit, a gain in your wit ....

Why not exchange experiences via the forum? Like that, every forum member, guest, or Google searcher will be able to benefit from these experiences.

Not even just that, back up important stuff on an external drive or DVDs in case the entire hard drive fails. I had a hard drive died when a book fell on my laptop - it was a pain to have to run the recovery discs and Windows Updates again, but having everything backed up made it fairly stress free as I lost nothing of value.

Sure, regular backups are a default requirement.
