Hi, I bought an Asus z70va around last november, and to say the least, it's an awesome laptop!![]()
However, I've noticed an ongoing problem...For some reason, whenever I turn my laptop back on whether it's from a logoff & my laptop is closed, or it's completely been shut down...it takes FOREVER for it to startup. When it turns on, I can hear the sound of the laptop (especially with z70va being somewhat notorious for being a fairly loud lappy) but it's just a completely black or blank screen.....Not only till a long time after waiting does the logon page come up! The time varies from 1, or 5, or to sometimes 10 minutes! It's very frustrating. It happened a couple times when I first got the z70va, but now it's happening more frequently.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

Btw, it's not a RAM thing though, at least capability-wise, cuz I have a gig of RAM.
-
could be a HD issue.
-
what can I do to figure out what or where the problem may be?
It is quite irritating... -
If you have bad HD sectors it can cause problems. did you try reinstalling windows.
-
are you noticing this problem while connect to a network by ethernet?
-
Not really...I don't think so...
The last 3 or 4 times (and it happened again before I posted this *argh*, though it took a little less time this time), I was connected through wireless.
I haven't tried re-installing Windows, and I don't really want to try because it's such a hassle. Is this the only option?
I dunno what it could be...sometimes it starts up really fast like it should and sometimes it takes freakin' froever. -
Run a scan disk and defragment.
-
Also check to see if the hdd is running in pio mode...if so then switch it back to dma mode....its possible that if you do have bad sectors windows will auto switch back to pio...this causes a huge hit in speed...esp on bootup.
The other thing you may wanna look for is what is running at startup...type msconfig in the run panel and check off anything that isnt super necessary.
Also an scan for virus's and malware would be a good idea along with a reg clean if you havent done so already.

What starting up could be an issue but its strange it only does it once in a while.

I had the same issue with my Z70Va a while back, it turned out to be defective ram. How many modules do you have? Can you test each module seperatly?
-
Ok, I am doing an ad-aware scan right now. So, how do I check to see if the hdd is running in pio mode or not? And how can I see how many modules I have and/or test each module separately?
BTW, THANKS VERY MUCH for all the tips you guys have been providing....it's been VERY HELPFUL.
