...Just got a new A8Js and each time I reboot my touch pad settings get changed back to default.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks...

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions about the process.

Removed the driver and software (Synaptics).
Once I rebooted the pointer was inoperative. Then I reloaded the Synaptic touchpad software and rebooted.
Did the same thing.
Upon Windows restart, the pointer seemed to hold the settings but..after a few seconds of loading all software..it drops back to default settings.
That is weird, it holds the settings until it appears another program over writes it or something.
Grrrrr...very frustrating for a Laptop that gets turned on and off for this to happen.
Did I do the driver reload correctly? -
Are there any other mouse drivers currently being used? For me, my logitech mouse drivers kept overwriting the synaptics drivers. (logitech wireless usb mouse)
-
I have gone to my device manager and under "Mice and other pointing devices" there is only the Synaptics PS/2 port touchpad drivers.
I do attach a normal usb mouse (that came with the notebook from Asus) on occassion but this problem has been occurring since I received the notebook a few days ago. -
I called Asus tech support and they didn't have any suggestion other than using the new ATK power control drivers on their download page as a possible fix. The guy didn't sound too confident at Asus that this would work.
Asus said they have not had any calls about this in their system. I am having a hard time believing that my stock config Asus A8Js is the only one not holding its mouse sensitivity settings after a restart.
Does everyone else here use the stock mouse/touchpad sensitivity settings and therefore do not experience this problem? That seems unusual considering that the resolution on the A8Js is so small which results in a very slow pointer movement.
Has anyone here with an A8Js reset their touchpad sensitivity and restarted without settings being changed?
This is just so weird........ -
Sorry that I can't be of any help here, but I can at least confirm that our A8Js holds the sensitivity settings just fine, with or without a Logitech wireless mouse plugged in. The only problem we have is that since plugging in the Logitech wireless mouse, we cannot disable the touchpad. Kind of annoying, but not annoying enough that I've spent much time trying to fix it.

I believe you. And trust me..this one has me mystified. It's not the most annoying thing but it is frustrating not to be able to figure it out.
I haven't loaded anything on my A8Js lappy yet and I was thinking of reformating and reloading XP Pro. I am thinking this is just a glitch in the registration somewhere.
The laptop came with Fat32 and I changed it to NTFS file system (the touchpad thing was already happening right out the box).
I described the problem to Asus tech that the mouse holds it's setting during restart until halfway through the programs loading (about 2 or so programs load up on the task bar and then...blip....the mouse resets). That makes me feel it is a start-up program problem.
ARRRGHH!! Everyone here and at Asus are geniouses at computers compared to me and noone can figure this out?

hokie - use a program like JV16 power tools or any other program that will list what programs are starting with your system and post what is starting. Also post all of your running processes after your system is started. This will help with trying to figure out what is going on. I'm sure this isn't to dificult to figure out, just not easy from long distance.

I went to my start menu and studied all the stuff starting up and found a program called Logitech Setpoint. It is a program used for managing wireless mouse and keyboards. I could not for the life of me figure out why I needed it and it looked suspiciously like a program that would load mouse configurations. Since I don't use these items I figured I would uninstall it.
VOILA!!! Fixed!
Everything is smooth and back to normal ( hokie does the happy dance!)
Learn something everyday.
What bothers me is the poor documentation some of thee programs have that come preloaded. You have to find out through trial and error what they do. That Setpoint program was using 60 megs of space and I didnt see anything usefull! -
I just reverified this entire thread on my A8JP. Of course, I found this thread after the fact. Doh.
Removed driver, didn't help. Removed Setpoint, FIXED!!! Sigh.
